Whenever You Remember
When you look back on times we had
I hope you smile
And know that through the good and through the bad
I was on your side when nobody could hold us down
We claimed the brightest star
And we, we came so far
And no they won't forget
Tears flooded her eyes as Minerva sat in the office not more than a month after that fateful June when she had been forced to take position as Headmistress. Now that she was alone in her new office, with her muggle radio on, which she had charmed to play even within the walls of the castle, Minerva felt tears rush to her eyes as she heard the song Albus had sung to her so many times. His words of encouragement he had given her, even after his death, flooded her mind.
Whenever you remember times gone by
Remember how we held our heads so high
When all this world was there for us
And we believe that we could touch the sky
Whenever you remember, I'll be there
Remember how we reached that dream together
Whenever you remember
She remembered those times when she'd faught along side him in battle during the first war with Voldemort. When he'd started the Order, Albus had promised her that she'd be the head one day. Just as she would be the Headmistress of Hogwarts. Of course she never realized it would come as fast as it did. Even if it was a long and hard near forty years. Minerva felt the tears rolling down her cheeks. "You'll always be here, I know." She said quietly to herself, unaware that the very man she'd loved and admired so much was watching her from his portrait.
When you think back on all we've done
I hope you're proud
When you look back and see how far we've come
It was our time to shine
And nobody could hold us down
They thought they'd see us fall
But we, we stood so tall
And no we won't forget.
"I remember, and trust me I am." Minerva said as if replying back to a muggle object that could never speak back. She was proud, together Minerva and Albus had run Hogwarts through some of the most trying times in the school's long history. They had dealt with the Sorcerer's Stone, The chamber of Secrets and the Basilisk within, a Tri-Wizard tournament. All those events had had something to do with the two of them, in one way or another. It was now Minerva was reflecting on those moments. The moments when Albus Dumbledore and herself had been in their highest of power. Some would still say that she, Minerva McGonagall was still in power but without Albus, she felt like nothing. He'd gotten her through most everything. Together they had been a team.
"Minerva."
A voice startled her, but as sudden as the voice had come, Minerva knew who was speaking. She turned to face the portrait, tears rolling down her aging cheeks, and her raven hair escaping its rightful bun.
"You know every word of that is true. Be strong, my Gryffindor Lioness. Without you, the school would be nothing."
Minerva blinked away the tears. "Albus it is nothing without you."
"That is not true my dear lady. And you know it." Then without warning, as it happened in most cases, Albus went back to sleep, just like most the other portraits did after offering their words of advice.
Whenever you remember times gone by
Remember how we held our heads so high
When all this world was there for us
And we believe that we could touch the sky
Whenever you remember, I'll be there
Remember how we reached that dream together
Whenever you remember
Yeahhh, Ooohh
We claimed the brightest star
And we, we came so far
And know that we showed them all
And no they won't forget
Yeahhh
Minerva let the rest of the rest of the words wash over her as she drifted off into a world of plans. She'd need to be a leading figure now more than ever. Albus' words always seemed to remind her of that. And it seemed the man could always give her strength. He always had.
Whenever you remember times gone by
Remember how we held our heads so high
When all this world was there for us
And we believe that we could touch the sky
Whenever you remember, I'll be there
Remember how we reached that dream together
Whenever you remember
Whenever you remember
Ooohh, whenever you remember
