A/N:: The song is "I Believe" by Diamond Rio.
Fan Fic 100 Prompt:: #030- Death (I always dreaded this prompt, but this is a much more hopeful song than I expected to hear, so I decided to do a songfic for this one.)
Rating:: K+
Every now and then,
Soft as breath upon my skin,
I feel you come back again,
And it's like you haven't been
Gone a moment from my side,
Like the tears were never cried,
Like the hands of time are holding you and me.
From the window of what had been her husband's office, Minerva could almost see the entire school grounds. She often enjoyed staring out of it to view the scenery because it reminded her of the special times they had spent together before he died. Minerva smiled as a gentle breeze brushed against her, bringing back joyous memories and even the difficult ones they had always managed to pull through. She wiped the tears from her eyes.
She had never loved someone as deeply as she had loved Albus Dumbledore.
And with all my heart I'm sure
We're closer than we ever were.
I don't have to hear or see.
I've got all the proof I need.
There are more than angels watching over me
I believe.
Oh, I believe.
Minerva turned to face Albus's sleeping portrait upon the wall. Though his death had been the most painful period in her life, she knew she had never truly lost him. He had promised her many years ago that he would never leave her, and nothing had changed that. It was often when she had no desire or hope for tomorrow that she could still feel his presence within.
Now when you die your life goes on.
It doesn't end here when you're gone.
Every soul is filled with light.
It never ends, and if I'm right,
Our love can reach across eternity,
I believe.
Oh, I believe.
Perhaps, she thought, it was the strength of their love and the absence of regret that kept Minerva from feeling an emptiness in her heart. Somehow it seemed that a part of him remained in her mind, body, and soul. Because of Albus, she had never been abandoned or alone.
Forever you're apart of me.
Forever in the heart of me
I will hold you even longer if I can.
Oh, the people who don't see the most
Say that I believe in ghosts.
If that makes me crazy, then I am,
'Cause I believe.
Minerva knew of the talk that she was in denial of Albus's death, but it did not faze her. How could they understand a love so deep, after all? They were ignorant of her true feelings, and she did not care.
As she stood in the doorway of the office, Minerva, feeling a sense of peace coursing through her, turned back for an instant to gaze upon the room. She closed the door behind her and held her head high. She knew that Albus was doing exactly what he had always wanted to do- watch over and protect his Minerva.
