Author's Note: Ok this story sucks and I do realise that. This song has been stuck in my head for DAYS it got annoying so I wrote a story for it the idea seemed good a first but it's crap now. Pleasey R&R[/glow]
Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won't see
That I want and I'm needing everything that we should be
I'll bet she's beautiful, that girl he talks about
And she's got everything that I have to live without
“Minerva?” Albus said gently trying to knock his best friend out of her apparent day dream, “Tabby?” Minerva looked at him quickly trying to compose herself, “Yes Albus?”
“You started staring off into space after I asked you weather you had a date to the end of the year ball.”
“I’m sorry Albus, just a lot of things have been on my mind lately.”
“Quite all right. So do you have a date?”
Minerva panicked was he asking her? For years they’d been friends of course but she never thought he wanted anything else to come out of it, of course she wouldn’t mind if he did but still, “Why do you ask?” She enquired. “Merely asking.” Was Albus’ reply.
Minerva tried not to show her disappointment too much, she had been hoping he was going to ask her and had been asked a few times before but she said, “No not yet. I’m still waiting for someone to ask me. What about you Albus? Decide who the lucky lady who you’re going to ask is yet? I’m sure anyone would be up for the chance to attend the ball with the Headmaster of Hogwarts, and the great defeater of Grindervauld.”
“I haven’t quite got the chance yet. I’m still waiting for the right moment.”
‘Maybe there still is hope’ Minerva thought knowing Albus wouldn’t dare try and read her thoughts without her consent. “I can’t seem to catch the one I do want to ask alone though.” He sighed. Her face sank again but he tried not to show it. It wasn’t her after all, they were alone now, “You’ll find the right moment Albus.” Minerva smiled as best she could. She looked at the clock trying to think of a reason to get away from him for a little, “I know we didn’t get a chance to finish the game tonight, but I have to grade a few tests before I head to bed. Can we finish this tomorrow?”
“Of course.”
“Good night Albus.”
Drew talks to me, I laugh cause it's so damn funny
That I can't even see anyone when he's with me
He says he's so in love, he's finally got it right,
I wonder if he knows he's all I think about at night
He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star
He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do
As Minerva walked back to her quarters she couldn’t get him off her mind. From the time she was sixteen years old she had been in love with him. Yet if she told him what if he didn’t love her back? She turned back at the end of the hall that led to his office, “I love you.” She murmured before walking quickly to her bedroom to get some sleep he’d never know. She simply couldn’t tell him; too many things could happen if she did. It wasn’t possible she was terrified.
Normally Minerva was one of the bravest people you would meet but this was another story. She couldn’t tell Albus she loved him. She stopped and gazed at a picture from her graduation as she reached her bedroom, Albus was standing in the corner of the picture gazing on proudly. Of course he was a little younger in the picture but none the less still handsome. He would never know, it hurt so badly, “Good night.” Minerva murmured.
Drew walks by me, can he tell that I can't breathe?
And there he goes, so perfectly,
The kind of flawless I wish I could be
She'd better hold him tight, give him all her love
Look in those beautiful eyes and know she's lucky cause
He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star
He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do
The next morning when Minerva went to breakfast Albus was already at his seat, usually they walked to breakfast, and dinner together, they had always done that it was their little tradition that lasted the last twenty odd years. She felt breathless when she caught sight of him, he was so perfect, so handsome, so wonderful.
As she sat down Minerva over heard Albus talking to Filius about that woman again, the one thing that crossed her mind was protectiveness over Albus. Whoever he wanted she had better be wonderful for him. He didn’t deserve anything less than the best anyway, “Good morning Albus.” She fought to smile as he turned towards her. “Good morning to you as well Tabby.” Albus said cheerily.
“I’m not eleven years old anymore Albus. Why do you insist on calling me that? You’re the only one that does anymore.”
“Because you deserve it and you’re wonderful.”
“Whatever you say Headmaster.” She sipped her tea smiling.
Albus eyed his as he saw Minerva had papers beside her plate on the edge of the table, “Minerva.” He said in a voice that was very similar to a father scolding a child. “I have papers to grade Albus.” She rolled her eyes, “You’d rather I just take breakfast in my quarters? I’ll do it unless you stop giving me that horrid look, honestly I’m not a child.”
“It’s the last day of classes Minerva.”
“Hence I need to get these done.” She picked up her papers and stormed off to her room.
So I drive home alone, as I turn out the light
I'll put his picture down and maybe
Get some sleep tonight
He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only one who's got enough of me to break my heart
He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do
He's the time taken up, but there's never enough
And he's all that I need to fall into..
Why had she ruined it and stormed off? That was the only thing going though Minerva’s mind as she walked up the steps to her quarters. She’d ruined her last chance of the year almost to see him, in a matter of hours she’d be packing and tomorrow she’d be leaving for the summer to stay with her sister in Glasgow. She’d ruined everything.
A few hours later Minerva glided down the stairs to the ball. Why had she even come? It’s not like there was really a point, Albus would be with whoever his mystery woman was, Minerva didn’t exactly have a date, and there wasn’t any romantic future with anyone else on the staff. Half of them were married, Binns was a ghost and Serveus was much too young.
Her eyes landed on Albus who was walking towards someone on the other side of the room, “Albus would you mind terribly if I just left early this year? My sister needs some help with things at home, and there really isn’t’ a point in my staying.” She stopped him quickly. “Minerva.” Albus had been worried about her for days now.
“Albus I don’t need to stay. Nothing is going to go wrong and I won’t be missed. It’s not like there’s a point in staying.”
“Very well.” He gave her a gentle hug as was their tradition for the end of the year.
“I’ll see you in September.”
Albus replied with a gentle smile as she walked away. She wouldn’t ever know. Yet another year with that story he made up about another woman Albus wanted her he wanted Minerva. Wouldn’t he ever work up the courage to tell her? It was impossible
Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won't see.
