Chapter 5: Molest?
Minerva was still asleep when Albus trudged heartbrokenly up the stairs. Alastor… his once trusted and most beloved friend… would he? Well if he could sneak into bed with his wife he certainly wouldn’t put it past him. Albus felt helpless for the second time in less then a week that man had harmed his wife and he had been so wrapped up in his own problems that he wasn’t around to help or save her. He felt anger bubble in his stomach again. Checking to make sure Minerva was definitely asleep he pulled on his cloak and left the eerily silent house. It only took him a few seconds to appear at his destination. He didn’t even bother to knock barging through the door with a simple spell he set out through the house. He found Alastor sitting on a ragged sofa in his bedroom, just the site of him angered Albus more then anything he had ever known. Before Alastor had even seen him Albus’ fist had slammed heavily against his jaw and sent him reeling. “Albus!” Alastor gasped from his seat none of his detectors had picked up on Albus’ motion how on earth had the wizard managed to get into his house. “My wife!” Albus yelled his eyes burning with fury as he grabbed the front of Alastor’s robes and pulled him up. He was terrifying he didn’t have to say anything the whole atmosphere his whole aura was terrifying. “My wife,” Albus continued. “Cried herself to sleep, I couldn’t even bring myself to hold her. You… you made her cry you hurt her so badly! Tell me what you did to her! Let me hear it from you tell me!” Albus growled heavily he was out of control he couldn’t stop himself. “Nothing!” Quivered Alastor he had only ever seen Albus this mad and that was the day he destroyed Grindlewald. “Don’t lie to me!” “We talked I told her the truth about how you see her, that’s all!” Alastor shivered heavily was this going to be the way he died. “LIAR! You touched her didn’t you, you… you!” Alastor stared in horror as tears began falling from the now thunder dark eyes of Albus Dumbledore. “I didn’t lay a finger on her!” “Stop lying!” Albus growled again. “I didn’t, maybe you just wish I did it. Wouldn’t that give you a perfect excuse to avoid your wife?” The bantering went on for what seemed like hours but Albus still got no further. Alastor would not admit to harming Minerva and there was nothing legal he could do about it. When he returned home he found Minerva sitting silently in the kitchen nibbling on a piece of bread a plate was set where he usually sat for dinner it was full of all his favourite foods. He wondered if Minerva had cooked this specially for him. “That was made over an hour ago you will have to warm it up again.” She muttered before quickly leaving the room.

A huge thanks to everyone who reviewed and to my beta reader Lady Lavender!
Chapter 6 Minerva didn’t come to bed that night and for once Albus began to realize how hurtful it was. He hadn’t slept in their bed for over a week and just lying on it now made him feel sick. He wondered where his wife was, he wondered how she was feeling if she was safe. He knew he should go looking for her, he knew she needed comfort but what could he say? What could he do? He had let her down more then once he was the reason this had happened he hadn’t been there. He hadn’t protected her. He was quite grateful when a large, desperate knock on the front door made him rise from the now tainted bed. Wrapping himself up in a bathrobe Albus traveled down the long hallway and came to large heavy oak door. It was still dark outside Albus noted as he looked through the window next the door, he couldn’t see a thing. Opening the door, Albus was quite shocked to find Poppy Pompfry in total hysterics on the doorstep. “I need to see Minerva.” Poppy sniffled softly. “Minerva’s not here, come in I’ll get you some tea.” Albus answered, curious as to what had his wife’s best friend in such a state. Fixing his own secret remedy of tea he gave it to Poppy and watched her calm down instantly. “What’s wrong, Poppy?” Albus asked again softly, she had been in such hysterics earlier there was no way she could have answered. “ALASTOR!” Poppy sniffled. Just the name was enough to arouse Albus’ anger. “WHAT? What has he done now?” Poppy stared dumbstruck at her boss, she had never seen him so angry before. “You don’t understand let me explain, Alastor hasn’t done anything.” Poppy muttered quietly, she didn’t understand why just the name had angered the headmaster so greatly weren’t they supposed to be friends? “As you know ever since the Hogwarts incident I’ve been traveling to his house once a week and doing some cleaning sometimes just talking.” It was obvious that Poppy was desperately in love with Alastor, it had been for a very long time. She had spent the last two years desperately trying to catch his eye all her attempts had failed, Albus was quite sure he knew why now. Come to think of it the only women he had ever seen Alastor with were slim with black hair. Had he been trying to find a replacement for Minerva? “I went round today and he was in such a state Albus, I have never seen a man drink so much alcohol! I tried to stop him eventually he kicked me out the house. I’m so worried Albus what if he does something stupid?” ‘Too late for that.’ Albus found himself thinking, if Alastor had never drank that night none of this would have happened. “I’m sure he’ll be fine Poppy, if he drank that much he will have probably passed out by now. He’s grown man let him handle himself.” Albus spat uncharacteristically. “What has happened between you two? When I mentioned your name earlier he stared at me as if I had slapped him! You can’t let a silly tiff drive you apart like this Albus. You’ve been friends for long.” Had they? How could he be sure that Alastor had really been his friend? How could he be sure he wasn’t just using him, he wasn’t just plotting and finding the weaknesses of the man who held Minerva’s heart? Minerva… where was Minerva, was she safe? He wondered where she had spent that night. He knew plenty of men would be willing to take her in for the night. But no, Minerva wasn’t that kind of woman he knew that. Showing Poppy out and graciously brushing of her gratitude and advice, he couldn’t stop the feelings of the dealt that began to entomb him.

Chapter 7
Minerva returned home very early the next morning, quickly banishing the newly acquired defensive spells Minerva entered her house. She found her husband sitting stiffly at the kitchen table, his shoulders slumped and his eyes puffy. His beard and hair was a mat of tiny knots, his tried eyes shone with relief and anger. “Where were you last night?” Albus asked croakily, as he stared at the much brighter, cleaner and somewhat calmer Minerva. “I stayed with a friend.” She answered quickly. “Who?” Albus asked again, surprised at his own dealt. Minerva stared fixedly at him, why should she tell him? How many times recently had he left her alone and not returned till the next day? How many times had she scolded herself at the doubt that filled her? How many times had he left her to wonder if their relationship would ever last? No, let him doubt; let him cry just like he had let her. “A friend.” She answered quickly. “What friend?” Albus asked persistently. “It doesn’t matter Albus.” She muttered as she picked up his comb from the side table and positioned herself behind him. “You have you’re best perfume on.” Albus whispered softly to himself. She would only ever where that certain perfume on special occasions, she had worn it to every date they had ever been on. “I decided it was a shame to leave it hidden in a cupboard, I can always buy more if it’s runs out.” Minerva answered as she dragged the comb a bit more brutally then normal through his silvery hair. She was lying and Albus knew it. “Your grandmother gave you that bottle, you always cherished it.” Albus pondered aloud again. “Well I changed my mind!” Minerva snapped heavily ripping the comb through his hair. “Why are you wearing that perfume Minerva?” Albus asked suspiciously, once he had finished flinching. “Why shouldn’t I?” Minerva asked softly as she placed the comb down and set herself to the task of cleaning the already spotless kitchen. Albus knew Minerva well enough to know the only reason she was doing such a ludicrous thing the muggle way was to avoid his questions. “Do you love me Minerva?” Albus asked softly as he stared into his cold cup of tea. “Don’t be foolish! I’m your wife!” Minerva snapped, still avoiding his eye sight. “Then why won’t you look at me? Why won’t you tell me how you feel and what you’re thinking?” “How can you say that to me when you are doing the exact same thing?” Minerva snapped staring boldly into the deep eyes she had become so accustomed too. “You won’t sleep in the same bed as me! You disappear with out saying when you’ll be back sometimes I begin to think you won’t come back. You’ve spent one night with out knowing where I was; imagine how I feel after weeks of it!” She screamed violently, her face blotched with red patches her nostrils flaring. “You have no right to interrogate me! You have no right at all, I don’t know what you’re thinking Albus but it’s all wrong! I am still your wife no matter what, I’m not a child you can’t question me about where I have been and demand I tell you what I’m thinking! I am not your student any more Albus, I’m you wife! If I want to tell you how I am feeling I will but at the moment, with the state of mind you’re in I don’t want to.” She snapped harshly. “I never thought you were…” Albus started his tempers beginning to rise. “Yes you do Albus, it’s been happening for years; I’m not the little naive girl you used to teach. I’m a grown mature woman, a woman you married it’s about time you took a proper look at me and understood that.” “How?” Albus spoke fiercely his temper bubbling. “I can’t even leave you alone for an hour with out you jumping into a bed with another man! How could you have not known? How could you have been so naïve?” As expected the slap came instantly, he could only just conquer the stinging sensation when the front door slammed heavily causing numerous pictures to slide of the walls. He should not have said that. He should not have let his anger control him so. Merlin only knew where she would go now. Did she really think he saw her as a child? He knew full well she was not but… did he treat her like a student? How could he marry her, how could he make love to her if he still saw her as a little girl? How could she think such a thing?

What a great argument! I always knew those two would really have a row if tempers reigned. I love a good fight but then I love a good reconciliation as well.

Wow, I have just read this from beginning to end and it is very good. You have managed to capture all of the emotions couples go through after infidelity and the betrayal of a friend but you have also added the extra twist of Minerva's own doubt as to why she didn't recognize Albus.
Very nice work, I am looking forward to seeing where you take this.

Wow!
This is so dramatic and sad, though I have to say that I nearly DIED when I read that it wa Alastor. Af first, when he walked in and saw himself, I thought it was a time-turner gone wrong kinda thing. Awesome...
Oh, and this comment:
What happened to Mr. Constant Vigilance? You'd think that if he was going to pretend to be Albus he would at least know when the man was due home.
Made me lugh so loud that people in the lobby of my work looked at me funny. As a matter of fact, I think they're STILL looking at me funny and that was a half-hour ago!

Chapter 8 Albus’ troubled sleep was abruptly ended by a sharp knocking on his bedroom door. Hoping to be greeted with the sight of his wife when he threw back the door, he was quite disappointed to see his brother Aberforth. “You foolish man!” Aberforth snapped as he grabbed his brother by the front of his robes and shoved him back onto the bed. Aberforth was the only man who could do such a thing with out facing the wrath of the greatest wizard? of all time.
“What are you on about?!” Albus exclaimed angrily. “You are the most foolish man I have ever met! You’re wife spent the night at my house yesterday Albus! She was in pieces, she told me what had happened and do you know what I said? I told her to come back to you and try to sort things out. She spent all morning making herself look nice for you, she did her hair she brought new robes and even put her best perfume on! And you, as soon as she gets in you question her and practically accuse her of having an affair!” Aberforth growled angrily, Minerva was like a sister to him and he wouldn’t stand for his only brother treating her with such disrespect. “She wasn’t even home for an hour Albus! She was in hysterics after your row; it took me everything I had to calm her.” Albus stared at him; she had been with his brother. She hadn’t been warming another mans bed at all, how could he have thought such a thing? “And for the greatest wizard alive you are just so wonderfully tactful aren’t you!” Aberforth growled sarcastically. “You have put that woman through hell, you are not the victim in all of this Albus she is. She needs your comfort and you can’t even look at her or speck to her without making accusations. “I love her.” Albus whispered softly to himself, Aberforth was right how could he have treated her so badly? He had no idea what she had been thinking for the past few days, he had no idea how shewas coping.
“She begged me not to come and see you. But I can’t stand by and let someone like Moody destroy your marriage. She has decided she’s going to return tomorrow to collect her things, she’s planning on moving back into the McGonagall manor for a while, don’t let her go Albus.” It was strange Albus admitted taking relationship advice from his brother, the man who had never once been married. But he was right if Minerva left for McGonagall manor there would be no way to get her back. What Albus had never realized was that on his second visit to the cottage Alastor had placed a rather useful hearing device on the doors of each room. Minerva being so frustrated had not noticed him placing his hands on each door and Albus being so worked up about what was happening had not once checked that his protection charms were still in place. A quick letter to his cousin and the favor she owed him would surely be enough to drive the two apart for good.

Oh man! I can't believe I missed the 'row' update but I'm all caught up now! That was some fantastic display of tempers (both the Albus/Min and the Albus/Aberforth set). It's about time somebody started standing up for Minerva, the victim.
Hurry and update so I can see what happens next! Pretty please... ;D

Whoa. Just read the row. The famous McGonagall Scottish Temper meets the Dumbledore Furor. All my bets are on Min to win. One hundred points to Aberforth for standing up for Min. Albus had better listen to his brother's advice.
Update again soon, please.
