(Sometimes being a gentleman just causes problems I guess)
Chapter 9 The next day crept by slowly; he had cleaned the whole house that morning and spent the remainder of the day cooking Minerva’s favorite dishes. He glanced proudly at the living room, it was no longer filled with comfy red sofa’s and now looked like it could have been at home in a very posh restaurant. Smiling softly to himself, this would be an evening Minerva would not forget. He would show her how much he loved her and make sure she accepted his apology for his awful treatment of her. A soft knock on the front door interrupted his thoughts, she was earlier then Aberforth had suggested. There was no time for a shower now. Lighting numerous candles on his way Albus opened the front door and stared at the strange woman standing on his door step. “Can I help you?” Albus asked impatiently, Minerva would be here soon. The woman looked a few years younger then him, obviously older then his Minerva. Her reddish hair danced around her shoulders as she beamed up at him. “Oh Alby don’t be silly.” She cooed softly, as she pushed past him and into the house. “I’m sorry do I know you?” Albus asked edgily as the woman glanced around the room. “You did all this for me!” She whispered seductively as she began removing the thick coat that covered her rather attractive attire. “No I did all this for my wife, now I am going to have to ask you to leave!” Albus snapped, who was this woman? “Oh Alby stop it! You are so funny at times.” She giggled softly, as she grinned eagerly at him. He watched as her coat fell to the floor revealing a much too small nightgown. “I knew you’d appreciate it.” She whispered as she advanced on him. “No I don’t! I insist you leave now.” Albus growled, stepping away as she stepped forward. A typical gentleman he didn’t believe in cursing or hitting women but he came very close when she backed him against a wall. He watched as she glanced at the clock above his head, timing her movements exactly before slamming her lips against him. His pushing against her only resulted in his hands ending up behind his back. Quite an advanced trick one Aurors excel in. As sod’s law has it, Minerva entered exactly in the middle of what appeared to be a passionate embrace. She was screaming he couldn’t make out what she was saying; her checks were glowing with anger as tears of sorrow slid down them. He watched as the strange woman backed away from him. He tried to yell at his wife, trying desperately to inform her of what had really happened but no words came out. He wasn’t really surprised when a bright blue ball shot from the end of her wand and slammed him painfully into the wall. He watched as his surroundings became blurred and the love of his life ran from the cottage they had shared for years in tears.

Chapter 10 Albus awoke to the calming feeling of a cold flannel being gingerly applied to his forehead. Snapping back into reality and opening his eyes quickly he was quite shocked to see a strange woman peering over the top of him. It took him a few seconds to remember what had happened before he had lost consciousness and a few more to realize the woman was in fact the same one that had forced herself onto him. “You!” Albus moaned as he pulled himself up onto his elbows, his head fussy and his vision distorted. “Haven’t you caused enough damage? Where is Minerva?” He asked with a force that he felt was almost totally beyond his woozy body. “You’ve been knocked out for almost three hours, she’s long gone.” The woman muttered softly as she stared intently at the man before her. “Who are you? Do you have any idea of the damage you have done?” Albus asked at the sudden sadness that filled the woman’s face. “My name’s Latisa. I never thought that when he asked me to do this it meant splitting you up with you wife. I thought… I thought it was just some practical joke. But then… Alastor never really has had a sense of humor.” She answered shamefully, her head bowed and her cheeks glowing. “ALASTOR!” Albus cried angrily, that man… that man seemed to stop at nothing. Had he succeeded this time though? Minerva would never believe him if he told her what had truly happened. Even if Latisa did Minerva would ever be able to forgive him. “Alastor’s my cousin. I really never meant to cause such harm I just thought it was a joke. Maybe if I go and talk to her, she will realize it was just a mistake.” “She won’t believe you,” Albus growled as he pulled himself up from his position on the floor. He would never forget the hurt and anger that filled his love’s eyes, the pain he had saw there. Perhaps… he should just give up now; they had had so many problems as of late perhaps it was better to let her find someone else someone… younger, someone better. “You can’t say that till we have tried!” Latisa protested standing before him, now wearing a much more modest gown. “We’ve had so many problems Miss. Moody I don’t believe it’s fair for me to keep struggling for her. It wouldn’t be fair for me to hold her back any longer.” Albus sulked. “NO! She wouldn’t believe that, I saw the way she looked at you her heart was breaking she obviously loves you so much. How can you just let that go?” “Don’t you understand? That man you call family won’t stop at anything to break us up look at all the pain he has caused already. I don’t deserve her he’s right; a man who did deserve her would have comforted her after that disgusting filth laid his hands on her. But I didn’t do anything! I don’t deserve her.” Albus yelled violently collapsing onto the kitchen table. “Well with that attitude no you don’t deserve her! Isn’t this your time to make it up to her, to show her that you do care and that you want to be there? Instead of leaving her to think that you don’t love her and don’t give a merlin’s beard?” She watched the broken man as he stared into his lap not answer her and perhaps not even listening to her words. “Well if you won’t go and see her I will!” Latisa snapped before flouncing towards the fire and casting the Flou Powder spell. She had heard what that woman had said before she had stepped into the fire and was not afraid to follow and sort this awful mess out.

Chapter 11 Latisa Moody reappeared almost instantly in a large room, the walls were covered in portraits but apart from those, a chandelier and the fireplace the room was empty. She began to walk slowly across the room, her shoes the only noise in the whole room until an outbreak of voices began. “Who the hell are you?” A portrait of a young male with long hair asked as he stared down at her. “I’m… Latisa Moody sir I need to speck to the lady of the house.” She introduced herself politely. “Which one?” The portrait answered, staring at the young woman in the most peculiar of ways. Come to think of it Latisa thought to herself she had no idea of the woman’s name and being a squib that lived in the muggle world she couldn’t have recognized Minerva from her numerous mentions and pictures in the Daily prophet. “The lady married to Mr. Dumbledore.” She answered again politely she had a distinct feeling that she did not want to anger this portrait. “Oh,” The portrait answered before yelling “TENNIE!” Latisa watched as a little house elf scrambled into the large room. “Take this woman to see Minerva please.” The portrait ordered. “Yes sir Tennie will take her right away!” The house elf answered gleefully before grabbing Latisa’s hand and pulling her from the room. The mansion was beautiful Latisa noted as she marveled at the many rooms and halls she passed. “Mistress Minerva is in there Miss.” Tennie squeaked as he pointed towards a large door. She watched as the house elf left and took a deep breath before knocking on the door. “GO AWAY!” She heard the shrill response but she could notice the tears in the voice. “Please Miss it’s urgent we talk.” Latisa called back. Minerva did not recognize the voice and decided she was best to answer the door. Quickly cleaning up her appearance and hiding away all signs of tears she opened the door and was horrified to see the woman in front of her. “YOU!” She screeched. “What could you possible want, haven’t you caused enough pain?” “Please Minerva,” Latisa begged. “You must listen to me this is just an awful misunderstanding I…” She watched as Minerva’s face changed from one of anger back again to the sadness she had seen in Albus’ house. “Albus put you up to this didn’t he?” “NO, NO!” Latisa argued. “I never knew he could stoop so low, you can tell Albus that he is no longer indebted to me and he can sleep with who he likes and do what ever he likes.” Latisa was quite surprised when Minerva snatched the necklace from around her own neck and forced it into Latisa’s hand. It had a wedding ring on it. “I hope you make him happier then I did.” She muttered before returning to her room and slamming the door behind. “NO!” Latisa yelled against the door. “No you don’t understand, nothing happened between us he loves you.” She gasped loudly when she felt the little house elf tug at her hand. “The master says he doesn’t want you upsetting Mistress Minerva and it is time for you to leave.” The house elf recited as he began to pull Latisa away, she was still clutching the wedding ring in her right hand and couldn’t stop the stray tears that began to fall down her cheeks, she had failed again. Minerva collapsed onto her bed, her heart screaming with the worst pain she had ever felt, her eyes stinging with the most agonizing tears. “Oh my child,” She heard a comforting voice speck behind her as the form settled onto her bed and pulled her into his arms. “My petal what is it?” Her father asked softly as he held her tightly to his chest and rubbed her back soothingly he couldn’t stand to see his only daughter so upset. He continued to stroke her back and hold her tight as she continued to sob into his chest when the sobs had finally subsided he asked the question again. “My dearest please tell me what has upset you so.” “Oh Father,” She hiccupped into his chest. “I knew we were having problems, I thought threatening to leave would help him realize.” “What happened?” “I made sure Aberforth told him I was leaving I thought it would help fix things but it just drove him to another woman.” She cried into his chest. “Are you sure my dear are you sure you didn’t just misinterpret?” He had known Albus for many years and had been quite sure the man would never cheat on his daughter. “No, I couldn’t have she was all over him and he was doing nothing to stop her.” She sobbed, the tears once again returning. “Sweetheart, you said you were having problems do you understand, can you justify why he did such a thing?” Her father asked softly resting his head against his daughters. “Yes.” She wept. “Than if you understand can you not forgive him, in all your years of marriage he has never done you any wrong before can you not forgive him for this one mistake?” “NO!” Minerva yelled against him. “No I can’t.”

Chapter 12
Latisa returned to the Dumbledore cottage, heart sunken. She handed Albus his wife’s ring and watched as the wizard broke down before her. She watched hopelessly as he screamed loudly, it was as if she could feel his heart shattering, it was as if she could feel all the emotions bubbling inside him, it was as if it was she who could only express everything that was happening in his mind by screaming. “Albus.” She muttered softly placing a comforting hand on the distraught man’s quivering shoulder. “Just go!” Albus exclaimed, “Just go and tell that filth he’s succeeded.” Latisa ignored this statement and settled herself on the sofa opposite him. “Albus you must go see her; there could still be a way…” “NO!” Albus interrupted her. “She has made her decision clear.” “But she was so upset; she wasn’t thinking rationally… please you must. A love like yours is so rare you can’t just throw it away like this!” “You know nothing of me and Minerva.” Albus snapped, burying his head like a small child. “I know to enough to see what you have is special.” “It was doomed!” Albus retorted. “From the very start it was doomed, she is eighty years younger then me, though mature beyond her years, though she tried to ignore it I always knew one day I would have to leave her. One day I would be gone and she would be left here for years and years to come, a widow. I always found it so hard to get that out of my head, I felt so guilty that I could not give her a family a comforting open marriage. Perhaps she’s right… perhaps I do still see her as a student, I can’t help but notice how much younger she is. She’s so mature… yet I feel a need to protect her from the world to wait until she is grown. I find it hard to see that in truth she is grown and ready and has been for years. I love her and see her as the grown woman she is, yet the image of that little girl still haunts me I see her so often in Minerva I just want to protect her, I just want keep her safe.” Albus sobbed into his knees. “You can’t protect her if you’re not with her Albus.” Latisa answered. “You haven’t been listening! She doesn’t need protecting she’s a grown woman she’s ready for the world she has seen the world I just can’t get to grips with that!” “If you ask me, it sounds like you just have.” She watched as Albus stared at her intensely about to retort but she stopped him by continuing. “You understand that Minerva is a grown woman and not that little girl any more. You have excepted that you can’t protect her at every moment. Alastor unintentionally has given you a gift Albus. Not that I’m saying what he did was right!” Latisa continued at the shocked look that crossed Albus’s face. “No what he did was despicable, but it has also helped it could also be what perfects your relationship with Minerva. You weren’t able to protect her; you weren’t able to comfort her this time like you had when you’d been unable to protect her before. She had to deal with this on her own, something you have never let her do before while she was with you. I bet she was always complaining that you mothered her at times. What Alastor did has made you come to grips with the fact that you cannot protect her every time, that she is not a little girl who will only get into trouble if you let her. You can see now that she is ready and has faced the cruelness of the world. Alastor has destroyed her Albus, though you were not there to take the blow yourself you can still help to pick up the pieces.” “I don’t understand.” Albus answered simply. “You will, go to her!” And surprisingly this time, he took heed of her advice and headed for the fire place.

(I know I've taken much to long to update this everything is just so busy at the moment. Only two more chapters to go now!!)
Chapter 13 Albus landed gracefully in the welcoming hall of the McGonagall mansion. Years of both friendship with Minerva’s father and marriage to Minerva herself had allowed him to learn his way around the enormous mansion. “Evening Professor.” He heard many of the portraits greet him as he traveled though the halls to Minerva’s bedroom knowing full well she would probably be there. He knocked softly on the large oak door for the first time wondering what on earth he was going to say to the woman he loved, wondering what he could possibly say to make her understand what had truly happened and forgive him for being such a fool in the past weeks. He was quite surprised when Minerva’s father threw back the door and discreetly stepped outside, his robes where disheveled and he looked exhausted. “I need to see Minerva, Marcus. It’s very urgent.” Albus announced. “She won’t see you.” Marcus barked. Marcus McGonagall was both a highly respected and abnormally calm man, but when it came to his family it was as if Marcus was a totally different person. “My little girl,” Marcus found himself saying. “Is lying on her bed crying her heart out I haven’t seen her this upset since she was seven!” Albus couldn’t help the shocked gasp that escaped him as Marcus his oldest and most beloved friend apart from that traitorous rat Alastor backed him up against the wall. “How could you do that to her?! You promised me you would look after her. I respect you Albus and I love you as my dearest friend. But you have gone to far, I don’t believe you had an affair with that woman but whatever it is Minerva saw and whatever it is you have been doing to her in the past weeks to build up to this you better fix it now!” Marcus demanded pointing to the door his daughter was still sobbing behind. “This is your last chance Albus; I never allow more then one blow to my family.” Albus watched as Marcus quickly stalked away, he had never been on the receiving side of Marcus’ hidden anger and he had to admit it was terrifying. He waited until Marcus was out of sight and headed for the door. The room inside was dark the curtains had been drawn and only one candle sat at the edge of the room. “What did you say to him father? I didn’t think he’d go so easily.” He heard Minerva’s muffled voice call out from the bed, he slowly began to walk in that direction. ”I could never go that easily.” He answered softly. “ALBUS!” She screeched as his eyes became adjusted to the lack of light he watched as she curled her self up upon the bed staring at him. “Get out now!” She hollowed sadly. “No Minerva,” He answered. “We need to talk.” “There’s nothing to talk about!” “Are you that angry with me, my kitten?” He asked softly. “You have no right to call me that!” She demanded. “As long as you’re my wife the name will stay my kitten.” “Then it’s a bloody good job I won’t be your wife much longer isn’t it!” She called as she hopped from the bed. In one swift movement Albus had caught her wrist and pulled her gently back towards the bed.
“Just hear me out I want to…” He never did get to finish his sentence, before he could even realize what was happening Minerva had slapped him heavily. It was something he supposed he had really been prepared for. Minerva had slapped him on numerous times throughout their marriage, what he hadn’t been expecting was for Minerva to suddenly push him back against the bed and repeatedly hit him and claw at his skin. Tears of sadness and anger burning a path down her now red cheeks as she straddled him and for a moment Albus could almost believe she was about to kiss him until yet another slap came as she continually clawed at his chest and beard all the while sobbing. Snatching her wrists in self defense Albus raised her hands just in front of his face and held them there. “How could you?” He heard Minerva ask softly, as she ripped her hands from his vice grip and collapsed into an exhausted heap on the bed.

One more chapter left Chapter 14 “Please Minerva listen to me.” He whispered softly lying down next to her exhausted form and casually stroking her tear drenched hair; she was obviously too tired to fight against it. “Sending her here was the ultimate blow Albus that was just malicious.” Minerva muttered to him. “Minerva stop it and listen, nothing happened between me and Latisa.” Albus growled his already shortened temper quickly disappearing. “Well at least you knew her name.” Minerva mocked scornfully. “MINERVA!” Albus growled again. “Latisa is Alastor’s cousin, he sent her to our home, Latisa believed Alastor was playing a practical joke and followed his plan exactly what you saw was Latisa acting, Alastor had obviously taught her the hand tying trick my hands where caught behind me I couldn’t push her away.” “HOW DARE YOU LIE TO ME!” He heard Minerva screech as she once again came at him arms and nails flying, but Albus was quicker this time. He caught her hands in mid flight and pulled her trembling form closer to him, holding her softly against his chest her hands pressed against him unable to move and cause any more damage. Before he could realize what in the name of Merlin had possessed him he had tilted Minerva’s head and pressed his lips to hers in a soft kiss. He couldn’t believe how wonderful it felt to hold and kiss her again even though she had become stiff and rigid against him, losing him self in her soft lips he was horribly brought back into reality when she heavily bit his bottom lip. Pulling away from her he forcefully pushed her down straddling her legs so she was unable to kick at him and holding her hands tightly above her head. “You’re insufferable at times.” He jokingly scolded as he stared down at her. He couldn’t help but remember the way he had held her in almost exactly this same position but under much different circumstances, circumstances where her eyes had been burning with desire instead of the anger and almost fear that showed now. “Enter my mind Minerva,” He prompted her. “And you’ll see what happened, you know memories cannot lie as long as they are inside the mind Minerva, I won’t stop you or place any barriers I have nothing to hide from you.” He whispered and before he even could have a chance to prefer himself he felt Minerva intrude into his mind. It was hard not to place barriers up, but he managed to resist the urge. He felt Minerva’s presence as she carefully watched the memory he had left open for her, he was quite surprised when obviously finished and she began digging through his memories obviously looking for other times when he could have been untruthful. Albus didn’t stop her and felt her withdraw after a certain amount of rummaging. She collapsed against him once again exhausted. “You were telling the truth,” She whispered. “Oh Albus.” “Ssshhh,” Albus cooed stroking her hair softly and cradling her body against his. “I’m sorry Minerva, I have been the worst of husbands. That disgusting vile rat of a man hurt you so and I ran away like a coward unable to protect you and help you. I even accused you of infidelity when all you were trying to do is fix things.” “Albus I…” Minerva tried but was quickly interrupted by Albus. “And for all these years, I’ve treated you with mixed feelings both looking upon you as a grown woman capable of love yet at the same time a student still naive to the world and worried my love is not something you could understand. Strange isn’t it how the woman Alastor sent to end my relationship with you changed into someone who helped me realize what I need to do to improve it and understand my feelings. Minerva if you are willing I want another go at this, I’m not asking for your forgiveness just please my love one more go and I promise I will never mess it up again.” “Oh Albus, I… I don’t know. How do I know you won’t suddenly realize what has happened, how do I know you won’t repeat your actions.” She couldn’t help the small smile that brightened her face as a cheeky grin formed on Albus’ face. “I will never turn my back on you again my kitten, I promise.” He grinned again allowing her his to drop down to rest on hers. “Let me show you exactly what you mean to me.” His lips pressed firmly against hers in a soft yet passionate caress that sent chills down her spine, when he finally pulled away she watched him breathlessly and stammered “Alright, but we’re moving house as soon as possible Albus Dumbledore.”
