Okay, so I didn't see this anywhere else, so I decided to post it here. Has anyone seen the trailer for Becoming Jane? It looks awesome! It has Maggie Smith and Anne Hathaway! It's about Jane Austen's personal love story. I really want to see it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYViBfUvSOA^^^Link to Trailer

I saw a screening on Monday night. It's very good--both leads and Maggie are excellent. And Maggie's character is a b*tch. She also wears a costume which puts that ridiculous hood that's posted somewhere on here to shame. Apparently it's authentic to period, but it is UGLY.

Ack, I'm so excited for a new Maggie movie. She looks scathing in the trailers, I can't wait. I love it when she plays horrible old women.

Here is a bit about her from an interview w/ Anne Hathaway: "Maggie was just wonderful – put her in any situation in life and she’ll make the driest, most clever observation you’ve ever heard. It was great to just be around them and hear their stories. The thing which is lovely about both of them [Maggie and Julie Walters] is that they’ll be laughing up until they say, “action” and then they’re completely in character, it’s terrifying. Then when they say “cut” they’re back to being themselves." www.indielondon.co.uk/Film-Review/becoming-jane-anne-hathaway-interview

One of my favorite bits is in the trailer:
Maggie: "What is she doing?" Mr Wisley: "Writing." Maggie: "Can anything be done about it?"

you're not serious that you haven't seen it, are you? then you'll have to see it... It's wonderfull it's a slow movie, if you know what I mean. but when you leave the cinema, you're very quite and just thinking, about how hard Jane Austen had it..
And the other hand you can't stop laughing about Maggie she is hillarous, the whole cinema was laughing each time she said something, she is absolut one of the best actresses along with Julie (Andrews)..
you'll have to see it..
Love Mie

I'm not sure why this was released in America so much later than Australia... normally it's the opposite!
I saw this a few months ago, and it was just wonderful. Maggie Smith described her role as 'blink and you'll miss it' - but she steals the screen for every scene that she's in.
Anne Hathaway is also rather lovely, and gave the whole movie this wonderful sort of innocence. I loved it!

Squee, I finally saw it!
Maggie wasn't in enough scenes, but she was fantastic.
I don't think it's a limited release...
OMG I want Maggie to be my grandmother too. Instead of the crazy one who's trying to force me to remain ten years old...

I nicknamed Maggie's character as "Her Royal B*tchiness", but she looks absolutely regal in a purple and black ball gown ;D I would like to have her as my grandmother... I have the same crazy grandmothers who kept on asking absurd questions incessantly, so why not have Dame Maggie Smith as a grandma? I'm sure she'll keep me on the line with her best "hem hems", Minerva-ish glares, or the "Lady Gresham pep talk" (impromptu talk on discipline etc etc). Here's all ye greatness in her best face and costume, probably except for the wacky hairstyle though! (Kowtow) I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy! And this is the cute costume... But still, Maggie's character is quite b*tchy in the movie, that I actually liked to have that kind of grandmother!

I finally saw it the other day...GAH I loved it. Maggie was beyond fantastic, and I thought she wasn't as much of a bitch as she could have played it. I actually felt for her character as opposed to...oh shit whats her name from Pride and Prejudice. Crap, anyway she wasn't as mean as many would havve done, she had a heart, whihc was nice. Also that green ballgown, fantastic, and we actually saw spme cleavage from her, WOO...ok I have no explanation for why that excited me so much, but I was quite happy for her. And Julie Walters and James Cromwell were fantastic as well
I was kinda dissapointed with Anne Hathaway. Something about her didn't sit right with me. She was good, but she wasn't right, does that make sense? I really would have preferred an actual English actress like Kate Winslet, maybe Keira Knightly or a younger Emma Thompson. I dunno, thats my only qualm with hte film

*Spews random liquid from mouth* Cleavage? WHERE? Never noticed her you-know-whats in the trailer, maybe it's the corset illusion. Grrr, I'm just too blind to see 'it'! Hoho! When will the movie come to Asia? I'm dying to see her in it!!!

Not in the trailor, that I notied at ;least. During the ball, when she pulls Jane into the room to talk to her, you get hte *ahem* "Heaving bosom" effect from the corset. I really love whenever I get to use that phrase in a snetance

I'm going to see it in a little bit... I'm so excited!!! I'm dragging my mom along, though. I haven't told her Maggie plays in it. The last movie with Maggie that I watched with her was 'Ladies in Lavendar' and she despised it. And she called Maggie 'that ancient woman that was in Harry Potter'. I didn't talk to her pleasently for a week after that.

My mom and neighbor were going to take me to see it as a "going away to college present" from my neighbor, but it's not showing anywhere near me My mom has been talking about it for a while now though because she knows how much I love Maggie. The last movie we went to see (together) was "ladies in lavender" because she knew how I love Judi and Maggie and she loved it too. Then she bought it on dvd and is refusing to let me take it to school!
