I found it be very enjoyable! I didn't reread the book before seeing the movie, so it was much easier to appreciate the film as a film because I wasn't comparing it to the book the whole time. Overall, very well done, I think - although the ending seemed a bit lacking to me.
And yes, some more Minerva! I was so happy every time she was on screen!

I'm just back from the theater and I really enjoyed and like the movie... A lot of Min (compared to 4 and 5), but only one shipper moment.... I cried when Albus died ("Severus... please..." that's where it started) and I finally broke down when I saw Min was crying.
But I think the movie seems to miss the main plot of "HBP"... all is about the romantic relationships. And I totally agree with gahhMinerva: the ending was/is lacking. Looks like they put all the important stuff in a row so you get things straighted out for the big final...
Yet I really enjoyed the movie and laughed a lot.
Think I*ll rewatch it. =)

I really enjoyed this one! Not only was there much more of Min, but it had everything. Jelousey, Angst, Romance, Humor, Horror (was I the only one that jumped when the hand grabbed Harry in the cave?), and so much more!
I think I'll be seeing it again. And I do agree, there was some lacking on the plot, but I was very happy with it!

yeah the hand xD OMG i was shocked like everyone, but a woman in the row behind me scream and the whole room was laughing...^^ but that's the only scene you could count to horror... my opinion... *shruggs shoulders*
well I don't mind the lacking polt either but I did read the books...
btw there was one girl (probably my age) who went out of the theater talking like "Snape's such an ******" all the time and I was like "Oh gosh...go read the books and stop the silly talk..." ^^

I loved how they had the scene with the necklace where Minerva was like, " How is it that you 3 are always involved?" or something like that and Ron was like " Don't ask me!". I laughed so hard I must have sounded extremely obnoxious. I like how the writers actually gave Minerva some humorous lines that seemed to lighten up her character almost. Maggie deserves her time in the spotlight!!! Although I practically threw a fit when I saw the horrible robes they stuck poor Maggie in. Is it just me or have her costumes gotten worse as the movies come out? Just an observation.
My favorite part would have had to be the end. This might sound "Grandma-ish" ( my friends thought so and laughed at me the whole time I was explaining myself) but I think the scene where the school is gathered around Dumbledore's body is extremely moving. When people raised their wands, it was obviously as a sign of respect for him. Just to see that large group of people grieving and honoring him was just... WOW. It shows the amount of respect people had for him, especially Minerva. I don't know why, but it seemed kind of like closure of some sort knowing how highly his faculty and students thought of him. I'm done rambling now so.... yeah.... it was AHHHHH-MAZZZIING!!!!!

(squeals) Just got back from seeing it!
*dork moment* I screamed when the hand grabbed Harry. Sorry if that was funny to others but that was my thing. I can watch you stab someone but you grab me in the dark and I freak. XD That would probably be my boggart is someone just jumping out of a wardrobe and grabbing me.
I was so happy about the more Minerva moments and they were awesome! Her eyes looked huge all through the movie; so expressive!
I cried when Albus fell from the tower and nearly started again seeing Poppy and Minerva crying for him.
The fire lasso was so cool!!!! Dumbledore had his Gandalf moments all through this.
The ending was lacking though. I'd have preferred they'd have had the funeral...but you can't have everything.
Over all the movie was great and I wish the last two would hurry and get here.
** Bellatrix was awesome too. I loved the fire!

The part of the ending I didn't like was the trio's conversation. It stopped being compelling once they brought up Ginny abruptly. Still, ending the movie with those beautiful shots of Fawkes flying away was beyond lovely. Question: In the scene in the hospital wing where everyone leaves Ron and Hermione to themselves, did anyone notice Dumbledore extending his arm as if to usher someone alongside him? I'm not sure if I'm forgetting anyone, but I can't imagine who it could have been besides Minerva. Lavender had run out, Pomfrey had already left, Harry lingered for a little bit, and the only other people were Snape, Slughorn, and Minerva. Is that correct? ...If anyone's seeing it again anytime soon (I saw it twice myself and only noticed it the second time), I'd like to know if his hand was indeed on the small of her back as they left. :3

I think everyone but Harry had left the room and Albus put his arm out as Minerva walked past. I don't think he actually touched her, though, but the gesture made me smile.

But that will not stop my shippyness! I'm seeing it again with my dad at some point (he also read the series), and I can't wait to look for it again!

As a "standalone" movie I would have loved it - I thought it was very well done and I even liked the added romance. Except ... it's not a "standalone" movie but a book adaptation and the more I think about it the more the movie annoys me. There are just too many instances where the movie unnecessarily deviates from the book. To point out just a few: - The opening scene: Why invent the stupid cafe/subway scene instead of just going with the original?
- Why change the scene on the Hogwart's Express - i.e. why did Luna have to find Harry instead of Tonks finding him?
- Why add the attack on the Burrow? It wasn't a bad scene as such, but it's not in the book and before including something like this one could have included something that's actually in the book - like a little bit of Bill/Fleur for example or Kreacher and Dobby trailing Malfoy.
- The cave didn't look anything like the description in the book - and most importantly Harry is not pulled into the lake by the inferi in the book - another scene which should have been left out in favour of something that's actually in the book (e.g. the fact that they left from Hogsmead and that Rosmerta alerted Draco of Dumbledore's absence)
- Why change the finale - I've got several points here:
- Why wasn't Harry immobilised (I concede that it would have been difficult to hide him under the Invisibility Cloak for the entire scene)? Since he wasn't immobilised why didn't he react at all? Draco was still alone when he said that he had to kill Dumbledore - a non-immobilised Harry would have done something in my mind in such a situation even if it would have meant going against Dumbledore's orders - which incidentally is why I believe he was rendered immobile by Dumbledore in the book.
- Where did the battle at the end go? As it is the finale seems somewhat anti-climatic. Plus I was actually looking forward to the scene at Bill Weasley's sick bed.
My main objection however is the fact that the movie does not at all include those memories which will later help Harry find the Horcruxes. How on earth is Harry going to find the remaining Horcruxes without the knowledge that Dumbledore imparts on him in the book? How is he ever going to find out about Nagini, the cup and the diadem? The whole Gaunt connection as well as so many other hints from Voldemort's past are simply left out. It already makes me wonder how far the next two movies will be removed from the Deathly Hallows. But to end this on a conciliatory note: I tremendously enjoyed the scene at Ron's sick bed - even though it's not in the book like that. Lavender making a total fool of herself and Ron mumbling Hermione's name let my shipper's heart rejoice. I'm going to watch the movie again today (yesterday I watched the original version, today it's going to be the dubbed German one). I will again enjoy the romance, but I will probably pick up on even more inconsistencies than before. And afterwards I'll probably come to the conclusion that the romance does not outweigh the other serious flaws and that all in all it's a crap movie. Post scriptum:I watched the German version yesterday and it didn't make things better - just as I had imagined. The world of Harry Potter and the German language just don't go together well. Even though most terms are translated literally (such as Death Eaters = Todesser) it just doesn't sound right - sometimes it sounds downright ridiculous. And of course a lot of the play on words cannot be translated very well - there were scene where the audience in the original version was roaring with laughter and where the audience in the German version barely seemed to be able to muster a smile. Also, seeing the movie again made the added romance seem rather tedious. All in all not a good experience therefore.

I watched the film yesterday. Thanks to the warnings I had beforehand I didn't scream when that hand shot out of the water. Now that I've seen the film in German I absolutely have to watch the original version, because the German voices make Dumbledore sound much more crazy than funny and Maggies voice is completely of . In my opinion the film is much better than the last one, probably because there is so much more Minerva McGonagall in it instead of cutting out all her important scenes I liked how they kept that fireworks music from order of the phoenix in the weasleyshop in this film. While I managed to hold of crying till I was alone in my car on the way back home, I kept on snickering every time Slughorn talked to Ron or at least tried to remember his name When I read the book I imagined Horace Slughorn much more creepy and unlikeable, but after watching the film I think Jim Broadbent plays the role quite well.

Absolutely loved it. True, there were some differences from the book, but I can understand why they did it. Considering that the director was the same as the fifth, I loved it a lot more than the last one.
The young Tom Riddles were creepy and my friends and I jumped at the arm-grabbing scene in the cave (one of my friends even screamed).
My favorite scenes are the Slughorn party due to McLaggen getting sick on Snape, Snape shushing Harry at the end, and McGonagall talking to Harry in Dumbledore's office.
Snape is now my second favorite character and I can finally accept Gambon as Dumbeldore. I have already seen this movie in theaters twice and I am going again tomorrow.

I did re-read the book...and I did find the film kinda disappointing...seeing how I was like screaming the entire way to the cinema coz I was soooo excited to see it! The film missed a lot of the aspects of the book...there were things that just didn't need to be changed and it wasn't a linear plot, it was just a lot of stand alone scenes (though I appreciate the book had a lot going at one time) more time seemed to be spent on Ron's romance than on the importance of the horcruxes (um...no wonder they're spliting the next one in two. Where was the diadem?? The ending was the worst though...I was fully pumped for a battle scene and a sad funeral....but NO! That bit where Min lifted her wand though was sweet (why wasn't she crying uncontrollably over his body?!?!?) but still... I guess it was alright...I liked the scenes with Snape in the party (I was like dying of laughter) and some bits were really funny!

She didn't cry as much as Poppy because she has to stay in control for the students. But there were two close ups of her at that point and the second one has a few tears streaming down her face.
I tell you...every time I watch a movie that has a close up Maggie and then that lone tear...I always want to cry.
Gambon did better at Albus I thought becasue he was a goofy cocky which always ticks me off about Dumbledore. YOu read the books and you know why he was like border line evil when he was younger. He was so idiotically cocky. Much like the younger Sirius and James. And we see how they all ended.
Moral: Do not think yourself better just because everyone else thinks you are.

I finally watched the movie yesterday - and I managed to watch it in English, thankfully. But as I had read all the comments on each forum I am on, my expectations had been raised too high.....6 Maggie scenes - yes, but just 2 of them are anything like appropriately long enough (the one in the hall about taking potions class is wonderful). And I was disappointed that I was not emotionally moved enough to reach for the tissue after Albus' death :-( But Michael Gambon finally was doing almost ok.... and Ron is great - so funny, I never expected him to be so funny! (But I did not go to the movies to see him....)

ok so when I said I was going to post thoughts when I got back, I actually meant that I was going to wait a week, see the movie again, think things over and then post thoughts...just clarifying.
Loved: ~Min's scenes in general, broke down more -The hallway scene was cute, seeing her deal with first year stupidity, and Harry/Ron idiocy. Also her eyes looked crazy blue -I love the look she gave Snape during the necklace scene after Harry accused Draco. Total "oh for fucks sake" look. -The hospital scene was silly, and Dumbledore held out his hand for her, so sweet! - The Dumbledore dying scenes, she was beyond sad and that broke my heart. And she reacted like I do to tragedy in public. -The scene in the office with Harry was sweet, and I totally wrote a scene liek that in a fanfic once, so go me! ~Michael Gambon was much better this time. He got that quirkiness down this time. Sadly he can't contine to do it now. Urg. ~Alan Rickman was brilliant. The little shushing moment on the tower was so great, cause he's GOOD! That made me happy. ~I liked that we knew that Draco was up to something, made me less annoyed with Harry than I was in the book, since we know he's right. ~The Black family gets the best costumes. Bellatrix, Narcissa, Sirius and Draco, all awesome costumes. Meanwhile someone did something strange to Min's robe, so that it flare out from the breast. Not a flattering thing on anyone. ~Luna. Just in general. Bellatrix too. In totally opposite ways. ~Dumbledore's death scene was really well done, I thought. Even though there wasn't a battle, the emotional drama was there much stronger and I liked that. I stupidly wore mascara to the movie, bad call. ~Jim Broadbent was totally great. He was kinda upleasant, but you couldn't hate him, which is what I always felt about Slughorn. ~ I actually liked the attack on the burrow. It seemed a fair tradeoff for the last battle and the constant notes and hints of outside turmoil. ~The Spinners End scene. Well done on all parts.
Was irked by ~The ratio of teen romance drama to horecrux information. Both were done well, but a little more infor o nthe horecruxes would have been good. ~ That Dumbledore said they could be anything, hidden anywhere. Because no. Wrong. ~ The final scene on the Astronomy Tower lacked a bit of punch. The film had such a strong moment in the raising wand moment, and then there was a coming down/rounding out of the death with the Min and Harry scene, and then the end just petered out. The phrase "Collapsed like a flan in a cupboard" springs to my mind.
Hated ~Nothing! Woot! That's not happened yet.
Overall I think it was the best movie thus far, though there are chunks of the fourth that come close, and the biggest problem I had with the movie was the same one I had with teh book: It's Deathly Hallows; The Prologue. But as that, it was good film. I need to see it again in the near future.
On a side note, Where the Wild Things Are actually looks Great!!!! I was so scared, but it looks good.

Thank goodness for Michael Gambon seeming to finally do better at his part as Dumbledore. I didn't find myself cringing this time at anything he did, really (that I can recall). And YAY for the scenes showing Minerva's sorrow at Albus's death. I'm glad they included that instead of carelessly leaving it out. I was very excited about this film, and I can't wait until it comes out on DVD so I can have more chances to see things I missed the first time around.

I really liked the movie. The beginning with the death-eaters in London was brilliant, all the Minerva scenes were great, Tom Felton did a really good job portraying Draco, which is unusual for me because I was always slightly 'meh' about Draco. I jumped when that hand reaches out to grab Harry! I always thought the Inferi would be more corpse-like and less... Gollum-ey The Harry/Ginny scenes were a bit cheesy to me, and I was annoyed they missed out Tonks and Lupin's romance. Bellatrix, Snape and Luna were fantastic as usual (although Narcissa's hair was... odd.) Gambon was a LOT better in this movie. When Harry was in Dumbledore's office at the end, there were sherbet lemons on his desk That, along with everyone saluting with thier wands were great ideas and very touching. They missed some stuff about the horcuxes, but the next movie is split in two so hopefully they'll have plenty of time to add all that in somehow.

Minerva's eyes were so blue! God love Maggie and I do too!

Hello, all! I'm back from the Beyond (AKA computer troubles from hell)
I saw the movie a couple of days ago, and I must say I didn't hate it as much I thought I would. For one thing, more Minerva. For another thing more Minerva. And, finally, Snape got his shoes vomitted on.
It does not get much better than that.
It seemed that the directors had forsaken the plot in favor of teenaged eye fucking, but oh well. We cannot have it all, can we? But it was, admittedly, some very well done teen romance.
Lavender terrified me. That is all that need be said about her.
Harry/Ginny seemed very forced and, yes, cheesy. But, what do we expect? It was sort of out of the blue in the book, as well.
THE AWESOME STUFF:
-Minerva's hallway scene. 'Mr. Potter, bring Mr Weasley with you. He looks far too happy over there.' XD
-Minerva's 'Worried Wife/Teacher' thing just before Albus is killed
-The hospital wing scene, after Lavender flailed her way out. Albus' comment about the sting of young love...is it just me, or did he give Minerva a little look when he said that? (and OMFG, he reached for her? MUST SEE MOVIE AGAIN)
-The 'Harry's here?' scene at the Burrow
-Molly's expression when she watches her house burn. MOLLEH! *Wails*
-All the students crowded around Albus' body, Minerva looking so heartbroken, but trying to be strong in front of the students. I was totally disappointed that she didn't throw herself over him and weep...but again, students. *Nods*
-Minerva starting the salute.
-Snape getting vomitted on. YES MY PRETTY. SCOWL! SCOWL!
-The very end of the movie, when Harry's in Dumbledore's office and we see the lemon drops...and then his wand. At first I wondered how the hell it got there...and then it came to me. Minerva put it there. She totally picked it up and put it in his office after the body was cleared away. And then she probably had a nice long cry.
-Bellatrix. She's one tweaked out BAMF, no mistake. Utterly insane...but rather hot while being so. If I were evil and had just infiltraited Hogwarts, I would totally dance on their tables too.
And...and that's about it, really. The ending was rather flat. And there wasn't enough about the Horcruxes. And did anyone else want to punch baby faced Teen!Riddle? Seriously. It's not just the fact that he's evil...I just had the inexplicable desire to punch the features off his head. ODD.
Strangely enough, I didn't cry over Dumbledore dying, or even at the look on widow Dumbledore's face. WHAT KIND OF MONSTER AM I?!?!?!!

Wow, I completely agree with everything you said. And yesss, Minerva starting the salute was one of my favorite scenes. Did anyone else get the urge to do the salute along with her?? lol. Poor thing looked like she was going to faint after Dumbledore died.

She was probably telling herself that this was all a horrible nightmare, poor dear. And, yeah, I wanted to salute Albus too. EDIT: The Last Office Scene actually provided some pretty strong ADMM shipping proof. "Harry...Professor Dumbledore...he...you were very dear to him..." Or something like that. She looked so sad, and was trying so hard to smile a little...and it strikes me as something only she would say if she and Albus were closer than friends. Sure, anyone could tell that Albus and Harry were close, but the way Minerva said it...it just made me think that it was something she and Albus had talked about a lot, by their fireside...*Drifts off into daydreams* Also, Maggie's older appearance only enhanced the ADMM experience for me. Think about it; she's stressed enough with Voldemort returning, and now her husband is going off on some dangerous quest, and has his hand cursed (which I think they both knew was going to kill him sooner or later)...and what's worse, he won't tell her much about it. No wonder the poor lady's looking a little tired out! This just goes to show that, when you've been shipping for nearly a decade, ANYTHING can support your OTP. Goddess bless Maggie, though. A warrior of a woman, no mistake.
