"The background on Professor McGonagall, I’ve had for years and years and years, and I think I always thought it would have somehow found its way into the story and it just never happened. Harry and Professor McGonagall just never had an interaction or a conversation where that would plausibly come out, so I was left with this life story of this character I liked so much and nowhere to put it. Now I’ve got somewhere to put it. That was so satisfying."
I've been waiting more than half of my life for this. It's HUGE.

I'm really looking forward to Pottermore now. I knew JKR would be revealing information that we haven't heard, but the whole idea of learning Minerva's back story is going to be wonderful!

I'm both excited and dreading this. She's just bound to refer to the whole Albus is gay couldn't possibly love Minerva thing isn't she .... I'm just early sure it'll be bad ... sorry for being negative, but JKR has tortured me too much with her revealings about albus. I just hope it doesn't mess up my story which tries to be about Min's early life and school years.  |

Excited. EXCITED. EXCITED! I have high hopes that this backstory will revitalize things around here a bit. I've gotten pretty weary of the total vacuum of Minerva's past, and it's paradoxically seemed to cut off all the creativity in fic writing. Every time a fic offers a history for Minerva that seems wonderfully plausible, I've wanted to incorporate it into my personal canon - but then writing fic using those ideas myself seems a bit like cheating, or pulling out cliches. It's been incredibly stifling and frustrating. I'm sure at least some the ideas fandom has been throwing around for years will be confirmed, which will be a relief! And all the new stuff will be a really nice structure that can only open even more creative doors. It's like... what we know about Minerva now is just a flat, blank surface. Pottermore is going to add texture to that blankness, and bam! An exponential increase in surface area, i.e. fic potential. |

Maybe you´ve already read this somewhere, it was knew to me so...
"As you read, you “discover” new content. We got a sneak-peek at the history of Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia. The page that we saw explained how they were named, and also how they met and fell in love, etc. We also saw a bit of background on Professor McGonagall, which involved a somewhat tragic childhood and a muggle… "

Hey, rest assured that Minerva may still have her feelings for Albus because i read a legit thing that she didn't confide in anyone but him. It said "no one saw her suffering except Albus" and he confided in her about his family's past. Now if that's not true love, i don't know what is. I hope that makes you feel better. |

*sighs* I have failed to get into Pottermore early, but I have read the information on the Harry Potter wikia, and even though I know that as a writer it is okay to have your own take on everything, I too feel kinda devastated. I in fact had her fall in love with a Muggle once, but most of all my take on her past is totally different, and it makes me feel... Well, I don't know... maybe a bit like a failure. All my published fan-fictions feel a bit like a lie now... because they're all so far from the 'truth', and I'll be having issues finishing the stories that are still ongoing like I had them in mind. :s

I too have seen the info from Pottermore on other places, and I don't particularly like it either. I mean what is this obsession that JKR has with people having 'tragic love affairs' in their youth, and then just never loving again ? I mean, Really ! Life is simply not like that, most people who love in their youth and loose the person go on to love again, and yet here we have Albus, Severus, and Minerva all apparently heart broken for the rest of their lifes. Honestly ! *Seethes.* The one moment of brightness though is the stuff about Albus comforting her with kindness and wisdom, that just makes me go all fluffy inside. Now to all those who feel that they can't finish their stories in light of this revelations, I dearly hope you change your minds. I too am in the middle of a story about Minerva's early life, and I have no intention of altering it in light of these pottermore revelations - unless it suits me to do so. So there.  I mean this is what fanfic is for - is it not ? This may be JKR's view of Minerva's past, but that does not mean that it has to be ours, unless we choose for it to be so, I mean who says she is accurate, after all she is so wrong about Minerva and Albus. Fanfic is all about what we want to believe, and about writing the truth as we imagine it or would like it to be. So I for one will be using elements of pottermore info in my stories if I like them, and if they fit, and if they don't, well then pft to them. Bola, please don't doubt your stories, or view them negatively, keep writing Minerva's past as you imagine it, there will be still be lots of people who will want to read your stories. I don't want JKR to succeed in killing our ship with her Minerva revelations, instead I hope that we will use this as inspiration, because if we can overcome her revelations about Albus, then we can surely overcome this. *Waves ADMM flag, and marches up and down a bit.* Whew, I wonder if anyone will read all that, but you can see I feel very strongly about this. |

I was about to decide not to come back to Pottermore threads, as I am completely discouraged by them, but sylviadragon, I could have just written all that you have said. I too found the bright spot in Albus comforting Minerva, and I'll keep on waving my ADMM flag, no matter what JKR has to say about it!

I agree, I don't like 3 main things... actually 4. 1. She apparently isn't the big family pureblood witch. (no offense to muggles, us!) 2. That she is not said as being amazingly pretty... she is GORGEOUS! 3. She is younger than Voldemort, what the? and 4... SHE IS ONLY FRIENDS WITH DUMBLEDORE! She got married, to SOMEONE ELSE! (not Albus) I know we all knew this before but I always have a small hope that it isn't true! Anyway but I mainly wanted to say that after this pottermore update I needed to thank all members and MMAD believers because without everyone there love wouldn't exist. Anyway but I mainly wanted to say that after this pottermore update I needed to thank all members and MMAD believers because without everyone there love wouldn't exist. But since fanfics exist, they exist in our hearts and in words on paper, a strong and amazing way to keep them real!! I have to admit, that almost made me tear up. I think that a part of me is afraid that other MMAD fans may be tempted to give up on our wonderful ship when JK throws things like this at us, because I'm not giving up. Every time something like this happens, it seems to ignite my dear muse's fury, apparently, because she throws TONS of story ideas my way (so many that I can barely keep up). I know that I, for one, will keep writing, and I hope that others will too and that there will always be people out there to enjoy the stories. |
