I actually don't like with ADPP; I just can't see it. I think it's because if it were true, then she would have been with Barty Crouch Jnr, and I'm sorry, but there is no way a wife/significant other wouldn't be able to tell the difference. God, I can tell when my bf has been hit on and is really embarassed! So if he were an imposter...yeah, doesn't work in my book.
And I used to loathe SSHG, but recently found a fantastic one (that was MMAD as well. YAY!) And (surprisingly) there is a really good, if slightly disturbing, MMMW story that is quite good. I don't like the ship, but the story as a whole is really good.
Also, about Evil!Dumbledore...some are actually brilliant. There's one called 'Young Again: The Re-write' which is one of my all-time favourite fics (I am holding on to the hope it will be updated). However, I do concede that I don't actually like Dumbledore very much *quickly dives behind a wall to duck the hexes hurled my way*. He just irritates me quite a lot. That damn twinkle... Minerva on the other hand...GO MIN!!! Sorry, had a fangirl moment there.
I'm actually writing a Manipulative!Dumbledore, Powerful!Harry, Powerful!Minerva, timetravel fic (say that ten times fast) and I've done 'Hidden From View' where he isn't particularly nice, and of course 'Don't Need the Sunshine'. I guess it just depends on the story. *crouches further down to prevent 'Avada Kedavra'

God, I can tell when my bf has been hit on and is really embarassed! So if he were an imposter...yeah, doesn't work in my book. Are you thinking of AMPP -- Alastor Moody & Poppy Pomfrey? (I meant Albus/Poppy in my last post.) That's always struck me odd, too, unless there's some explanation -- like they got together while Poppy was taking care of him after his ordeal at the bottom of his trunk for all those months. I don't think anyone could have pulled it off for me, either -- what you said about your boyfriend. If anyone were to have tried to impersonate my late fiance, I would have known within minutes, particularly in "intimate moments"! And knowing that there's something like polyjuice might make one realize it even more quickly -- otherwise, you might just think he was losing it or something! LOL And I used to loathe SSHG, but recently found a fantastic one (that was MMAD as well. YAY!) And (surprisingly) there is a really good, if slightly disturbing, MMMW story that is quite good. I don't like the ship, but the story as a whole is really good. I can't imagine MMMW -- it's just . . . odd. Even if they were gay, it's just they would seem peculiar together to me. I think there's quite a bit of good SSHG out there, as well as tons of dreck, of course. Do you remember the title of the SSHG w/ a touch of MMAD? If I haven't read it, I'd like to put it on my list of fics to-be-read (which is growing, LOL!). Still can't do it -- unless the entire thing is completely AU and AD is never seen as good (sort of the evil mirror universe kind of thing). I don't like the ones where the whole time he's just tricking everyone into believing he's good, but he's really this evil, selfish, self-serving pr**k. And of course Albus is manipulative -- but not in the "evil" sense that so many people like to make it -- I think he'd prefer to be straightforward, but he hasn't had that luxury. Besides, everyone is manipulative to one degree or another, it's just that some people are better at it than others! LOL! After all, he wouldn't be much of a leader for the Order if he weren't good at steering events and people toward a particular outcome. A lot of fanfic overdoes the "twinkle" aspect of AD, I think. While it is part of what defines AD to me, it isn't all of it. I also remember that the stories (canon) present the adults, more or less, from Harry's point of view -- not entirely, of course, but mostly. We don't see much of the adult struggle with all of the moral issues involved in fighting such an evil in a world in which magic and fate are real forces. I think that AD doesn't take any of his decisions lightly, and wishes that he had a more perfect understanding of all the possible consequences of his decisions. Despite what some of the characters in the books imply, Dumbledore is not omniscient or omnipotent. If he were, the stories would be very different! LOL Anyway, as I've said before, a flawed, human Dumbledore doesn't bother me, but Evil!Dumbledore -- just can't deal with it, myself. (No offense, I hope! I'm sure there are things I like that you would find bizarre or even icky! ) I'm actually writing a Manipulative!Dumbledore, Powerful!Harry, Powerful!Minerva, timetravel fic (say that ten times fast) and I've done 'Hidden From View' where he isn't particularly nice, and of course 'Don't Need the Sunshine'. I guess it just depends on the story. *crouches further down to prevent 'Avada Kedavra' I usually like your stories, so I may take a look at those -- I may already have, and just don't remember (my memory for titles is really bad!). Forgive me, though, if they don't appeal to me??? <supplicantly> As I said, it's interesting to see how people on this board, who presumably all like ADMM (!), have such varying tastes otherwise. It makes it more interesting, I think. -MMADfan

Are you thinking of AMPP -- Alastor Moody & Poppy Pomfrey Yeah, sorry I meant AMPP. Sorry for the typo
And the SSHG fic was called 'Like Mother Like Daughter' or something similar. (It will be on my C2 list if that's not right).
As for my Manipulative!Dumbledore etc. fic...I'm going to post it under a different name. It'll make life easier for me. lol.

As for my Manipulative!Dumbledore etc. fic...I'm going to post it under a different name. It'll make life easier for me. lol. Yeah -- you'll have to do a lot less ducking. Seriously, though -- trying to put this as diplomatically as possible -- how do you ship ADMM when you dislike half the ship? I find it . . . odd, to put it mildly. And what do you use to influence your characterization of him -- I look at the dialogue in the books, and other scenes involving him, as well as what other characters say about him, but I mainly rely on JKR's direct depiction of him (as opposed to what is filtered through the various characters' POVs and what they say about him). I just don't see any Evil!AD in there anywhere -- clever, skillful, astute, confident, politically adept, intelligent, loving, etc., is definitely to be found easily there, but evil?? -- and as AD says to Harry, I think it was in HBP -- because of the power and great responsibility he has been given, when he makes a mistake, it's correspondingly huge. (He doesn't ever claim to be possessed of perfect judgment or omniscience.) Anyway, hope you take this in the spirit of dialogue.

Okay, this has come out all wrong.
I am not the hugest fan of Dumbledore. Why that is could be potentially because he reminds me of someone from my childhood who had a lot of the same mannerisms etc and who came across as benevolent, but turned out to be a complete and utter manipulating, horrible pri**.
So that's probably why I don't like him overly much; past experience just makes me naturally suspicious of anyone who seems to be more powerful/intelligent etc. I always look for a hidden agenda. However, when reading I do try and put a bit of distance between the story at hand, and my own life, so that isn't the sole reason though undoubtably it is certainly part of it.
As to what I use to influence my characterisation of him -- I too look at dialogue in the books, and the scenes involving him, and (this is a personal thing) he has this habit of simple expecting people to obey him. I know that sounds utterly ridiculous, but he barks orders, and I've always thought he'd react badly if someone simply said 'no'. He doesn't ever claim to be possessed of perfect judgement, that is true, but he did allow Harry to go for five years without knowing the full details of the reason a mass murderer is trying to kill him. He left him on a doorstep of relatives he knew would despise him. To me, that says he is far too concerned with his own agenda rather than HArry's safety. Again, a personal thing. I'm one of those unfortunate souls who sees the glass as half-empty.
When writing him I try and vary my approach. Sometimes I block every natural instinct and make him quite nice and how I expect most people see him. Other times I let the side I think he doesn't show seep into the story. Unlike when reading, when I write I do let my experiences with people weave into the text. The afore-mentioned person who I always seem to picture Albus as has given me plenty of characterstics I use. This...person (though I have serious doubts he's even human) has made me extremely cynical to the extent that when someone pays me a compliment, I immediately feel like asking them what they want from me.
As for shipping; I'll read most things if it's well-written. If not, then regardless of what ship it is, I won't read it. Simple.
As to the reason I 'ship' ADMM, the answer there is also simple. Minerva McGonagall is my all-time favourite character, and more often than not, she's paired with Albus. Henceforth; I read ADMM. Though I much prefer Remus/Minerva and Sirius/Minerva. Those two people remind me of the two greatest men in my life. Minerva, being my favourite character and the person I identify most with of the characters of Harry Potter, naturally (for me) suits them.
Oh, if I sound titchy, let me assure you it's not the case. I'm just up at 5:30 am AGAIN for no apparent reason. Sleep? That would be sensible.

This...person (though I have serious doubts he's even human) has made me extremely cynical to the extent that when someone pays me a compliment, I immediately feel like asking them what they want from me. I dislike that guy intensely, not even knowing him, since he clearly had a really nasty effect on you! There are, unfortunately, a lot of pr**ks out there. I have lived long enough, known enough people, and done enough to be very well aware of that sad fact. However, there are a lot of really wonderful people out there, too, not all of whom I would necessarily get along with on a daily basis or want to be "best friends" with, but who I recognise are nonetheless good-hearted, generous-spirited folks. Nothing showed that to me more than when I went through a truly hellish experience (don't want to get into it here) and people I didn't even know, and whose identities I often never learned, reached out to help me in many different ways. As an independent person who had always hated asking for help and was reluctant to accept help -- or even gifts -- from anyone if I didn't feel in the position to "repay" them (even if it wasn't expected and I knew I didn't have to or wouldn't, etc.), accepting their help was a really broadening experience for me. I think I've always been pretty generous (well, more than "pretty," I suppose, with my time and energy, at least), but I found that experiencing the pure generosity of others was spiritually enriching (I know I risk coming off as a flake by saying that). And I think it helped me be even more open to other people. Anyway, I'm just saying, I guess, that I understand something of where your cynicism and glass-half-full outlook may come from, but that it's kinda sad, especially since that one particular guy did so much bad and his final blow was his influence on your view of the world. However, you have yourself together, it seems, despite him and whatever else went on, and that is a good thing -- and it is very important not to be too naive about people. Caution goes a long way, particularly when it concerns how much we trust people. Oh, if I sound titchy, let me assure you it's not the case. I'm just up at 5:30 am AGAIN for no apparent reason. Sleep? That would be sensible. Hmm, I agree, but I'm often not so sensible myself . . . like right now! Thanks for your response to my question -- I appreciate your openness (even though I still disagree with you about Dumbledore!) and your willingness to take my question seriously and not be "titchy."

It was no problem to answer your question. I completely concede that my dislike is probably unfounded, but hey, each to their own. And this guy did have a nasty effect on me, and my cynicism is that of a 50-year-old rather than an 18-year old, but the experience has taught me to hold my own ground, so for that I am (in an odd way) thankful. But I've got a wonderful family, boyfriend and friends, so I'm more than happy.

Trust me; I am nothing compared to my friend 'DubhCleite' (we swim together and are Min fans).
She's taken over 'Siren Unveiled' from me, and...well...it's certainly NOT ADMM anymore. And she's writing a Dark!Powerful!Minerva, Dark!Powerful!Harry, Manipulative!Dumbledore, Voldemort/Minerva, Harry/Bellatrix story. Which, in my personal opinion, is bloody brilliant! I didn't even know the girl was writing the latter!
And her next story, which is still in the draft stage, is bloody awesome so far. (An OC comes to Hogwarts!)
Anyway, now I've had my fangirl moment, I'll go now. lol

I don't mind slash if it's plausible and tasteful (Oxymoron, much? I guess just not weird/ridiculous stuff.). I've read Snape/Hermione fics that I liked, but Hermione was always older. Student/teacher fics (except for a few young Minerva/Albus ones) generally annoy me. There are a lot of ships that I can't stand. Like incest or interspecies ones. (Yes, I read the Minerva/Squid one. *twitches*) Rather than listing all of the ships that I hate, I'll just say I hate it when two characters are shipped for no good reason. Especially if they don't like each other in canon. Even though I may not like it, I think that nearly any characters can be shipped if the fic is well-written. If it's over-drammatic, disgusting crap, then the author should be shot. I'm trying really hard right now to keep myself from ranting about people who f--- up the canon personalities of characters. That's the worst. Someone mentioned that they don't like Snape/Petunia. I never thought it possible, either, and then I read this: rinsbane.livejournal.com/46555.htmlIt's fantastically written (And slashy, but it works). Yeah, I'll stop talking now.

McGonagall/ Harry
McGonagall/Umbridge
McGonagall/ Hermione
Harry/ Mrs.Wesley
Ginny/ Harry
Remus/ Sirius
Fred/ George
Narcissa/Draco
There's more but I dont feel like posting them. Basically anything with Albus and Minerva shipped with other people.

I agree 100% with your list there, kissofdeath! & I cannot express enough how much I dispise the Severus Snape/Minerva McGonagall ship. *twitches and shudders* You should take a look at "An Act of Love," if you're "of-age." It's an ADMM-ship story, with lots of yummy ADMM lemons -- and there's no "threesome" -- but it puts Minerva in an awkward situation with Snape after he's hit by a spell. (It does not become an MMSS-ship story, which I think some people fear before they read it -- but then I think of "ship" as meaning "romantic relationship," and that might be narrower than others' definitions of "ship." I don't see a Tonks/Severus one-night stand as a Tonks/Severus-ship story, for example, and would be disappointed if it were advertised as a Tonks/Severus-ship, and it turned out they didn't have any relationship beyond one roll-in-the-hay. Not that I'm a Tonks/Severus shipper, nor that I would mind reading it if they did have a one-night stand, but you get my meaning.) It's kind of an angsty story about how Minerva, Albus, and Severus deal with an awkward situation, but it's gotten good reception from a number of ADMM-shippers, despite the unfortunate presence of Snape in the story! It has a happy, lemony ADMM ending (not yet posted), and a sort of melancholy Snape ending. ;D There's a link to it in my current sig, if you want to give it a try. If not, that's okay, too! Don't want to upset anyone over a bit of a fic, after all . . . As far as the "gross" because they're "old" reactions to ADMM -- I've gotten that from a few people on other archives, a couple of whom actually came to really like the pairing! Even one woman who said she thought she'd need therapy after reading the first ADMM lemon in "An Act of Love" became a convert and now reads and reviews every chapter of "Resolving a Misunderstanding" over at one of the moderated archives! And she now likes ADMM lemonade! *grin* I love converts to the ADMM ship!!!

ANY Rolanda/Minerva story. I hate, hate, hate, that ship. That and Severus/Hermione (I cannot for the life of me understand the appeal of that one). I agree Minerva/Scrimgeour is just...urghh (how eloquent), and all incest ships are a big no-no in my book. I actually read a good Minerva/Hagrid but I don't 'ship' it. Ginny/Draco is...odd, I don't understand the appeal of that either. Any ship involving Cho, that girl is damn annoying. Erm...that's it really. I'm reasonably broad-minded.

I have a whole list. -Ron/Ginny -Fred/George WHAT? Do these ships really exist? It would be disgusting even for a parody. I wonder why the people who enjoy thinking about such things even read Harry Potter. As for Dumbledore/Umbridge, was it before or after OOtP? Neither makes much sense but during OOtP would probably be the best option ;D

Actually, one of my all-time fave fics is a Hr/S, with Hermione aged. This, however (as is the case with ANY fanfic, IMO) was a testament to the writer's skill, and not the ship. I've actually become somewhat known as the beta who will beta ANYTHING (incest, rape, violence, slash, etc) because I can usually look past the ship, the taboo, whatever, and see it as a piece of writing. I've read good and bad fics in all ships and situations. Like I said, it has more to do with the talent of the writer. That being said, I really don't much care for Minerva/Hooch. I don't kow why. It simply rubs me the wrong way. The FemmeSlash, doesn't bother me (I actually read a pretty good Minerva/Pomfrey fic once), I simply don't like Min/Hooch. It irks me on some level that I simply can't explain, even to myself. So I guess it would be a great challenge for me to write one, wouldn't it?

There are so many incest fics in fanfiction, it's quite disturbing. Admittedly, there is incest in one of my fics, but it's meant to make your skin crawl and the actual pairing isn't incest. But it's the Black family, and there are cousins married in that family tree of JKR's. I just made it a little...worse. That being said, any fic where incest is the main ship, and is supposedly 'okay' is gross. And I agree about Rolanda/Minerva. No, no, no, no, no. Should I say no again? The only woman I can see Min with is Hermione, and that's only because of OwlofAthena's work. If it wasn't for her, I'd never agree, but that girl is so very, very good.

I must admit, too, that I once wrote an incest fic. But it was meant to show the horrors and utter hell of rape/incest. It wasn't really a ship at all, but an angsty story about abuse.

The only 'ship I don't like is Sirius/Remus. No matter who writes it (even The Shoebox Project), I can't get into it. It's odd, I think I'm missing some universal gene or something, haha.
Otherwise, I am generally open to anything as long as it's really well-written. AD/MM obviously transcends everything else, though.

I myself really like Tom/Minerva.. it brings out such an evil, menacing, powerful Min that I completely love. I really love angsty stories about them. Here's a list of ships I DON'T like: Harry/Snape Harry/Cho Hermione/Minerva Harry/Minerva Minerva/ *anyone that's a teacher, besides Dumbledore, but I suppose he's not a teacher * Dumbledore/*anyone that's a teahcer, besides Minny* Ron/Minerva *yes, I've read stories!! ICKY* Ron/Harry *equally ICKY* Hermione/Ron/Harry threesome.. the list goes on and on, but most of them are just ones I make up in my mind that I would NOT like to see, but all I've listed are ships I've read about.

I just read through a LOT of these posts trying to find a ship I really, seriously don't like....
..and I can't...
I've read at least one fic relating to most of the ones mentioned (except Remus/Molly, and Molly/Minerva I can't judge those as of yet)...I don't have a problem with slash, femslash, or whatever (in fact I love Remus/Sirius)....I enjoy the whole teacher/student thing...
If anything, I will say Hagrid/anyone but Madam Maxime. Or another giant/half-giant I guess. I've read him in some strange situations, and given the simple dimensions of human beings I cannot see him with anyone who is less than half-giant. Even if they could use magic to "fix things," I still can't see it.

Hmmm...I'm sort of the same. I've read some truly horrendous ships, but that was more due to the quality of writing. And the reverse is true, too. I have (much to my surprise) actually read a plausible HP/MM and several good SS/MM fics, as well as one or two HG/MMs. I really like SS/MM actually. I'm a convert. The only ships that I downright refuse to read are interspecies, incest or any form of bizarre OOC orgy type ship. On my marginally less despicable but still basically unreadable list I have anything with HP/AD, DM/HG, and strangely enough, anything with James and Lily. I mean, I know they actually *were* together, but I find them so boring. I just don't bother. And I just remembered. Any Sybil/Min femslash is not okay by me either.
