I really don't like incest. And I can't say I'm keen on Harry/Ginny either. And Albus or Minerva with almost anyone else.I have to say though that I've read some excellent Minerva/Hermione stories.

I really don't like incest. And I can't say I'm keen on Harry/Ginny either. I have to agree with you on that, I DESPISE Harry/Ginny. I don't mind if it's in the book, but I'm just so burnt out on their fanfiction that I now loathe it. And insest is going to far for my stomach. But the one that I just can't digest is Harry/Cho. I hate it. I hate her. Eck. Btw, I've never heard of Hagrid/Snape, but that gave me one hell of a laugh.

My all-time favourite story is a HPMM. I read it two years ago, and despite reading Lord knows how many stories since then, this particular story is just superb. Unfortunately the author (Veruka) didn't finish it (I live in the hope she'll update), I tried completing it myself, but it just wasn't the same. *sighs*
And I agree with Harry/Ginny - there's an Oedipus Complex if I've ever seen one.

I'm not talking about mine... I'm talking about 'For the Hearts You Break.' I've written a couple, but in all reality (as much as it pains me to say it ) they're probably not that plausible.

I'm against pretty much anything that's been really blasted in a big way. For instance Harry and Draco really hate each other in canon. I see that as impossible to get around without going at least a little OOC. Even if it were hiding some deep attraction, the fact is that obviously hating each other is their way to handle it and that is unlikely to change. Basic stuff like that I just don't care for. It gets really far away from the characters really fast. I also don't care for slash with characters who have been clearly established as straight. Conversely, I'd hate for a character who'd been established as gay to be written straight. It just changes them too much.
Incest works okay as long as it's not portrayed as okay. If one of the death eaters has an incestuous relationship with their sibling, it works well cause it adds to the creepy. Otherwise it kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
So, if it seems to fall into those sorts of categories, I probably hate it a lot.

I quite agree with you, notoriousscrat. I like parodies - good parodies, not just any nonsense - still, I wouldn't accept anything as disgusting as sibling pairing. My problem is I hate Harry/ Ginny. Sorry. I can't help it. Not that I liked Harry/Cho. But that was at leas funny. For me, Ginny is the little girl who sent stupid Valentines to Harry in CoS. As a character, she seems so flat. Maybe I'm wrong.

Beatabrix, I know exactly what you mean. I've hated Ginny since book 5, when it seemed as tho Jo was trying to make her seem feisty and interesting (the result was just to make me feel irritated). She comes across as some sort of stock character... Red-Headed Girlfriend v2. Harry/Ginny never felt plausible or interesting to me.

I always thought Harry/Ginny were kind of forced. Ron and hermione have this slow build up to their relationship, but Ginny was like "Hey, look at me!" and poof Harry was in love. It didn't seem genuine.

Snape/Neville. I just found a fic with that pairing and I'm still in shock. Urgh... *my eyes! my eyes!*

Snape/Neville. I just found a fic with that pairing and I'm still in shock. Urgh... *my eyes! my eyes!* *crying dog noises* My braaaaaaaaaaaaaaain... *spoldyspoldy* I've found that my anti-ships tend to be anything that's has to be forced in order to work. For example, Fred and oh, say... Colin Creevy. Could someone make that work based on the characters alone? Probably. But you'd need a huge, long, involved series of events to get them to the point where it makes sense. Whereas, say, Lupin and Sirius's relationship could just sort of develop and progress and eventually end up there. You wouldn't really see that with Fred and Colin. So I'm really not a fan of those parings.

Snape/anyone I've found pretty squicky. The man is such a git. The Lily/Snape of 'Deathly Hallows' had me wanting to hurl the book though I also wanted to read it because Minerva was being awesome (a truly dreadful choice, though of course Minerva won out.)
Bellatrix/anyone female (that girl is straight as an arrow - Voldemort obsession anyone?) Neville/Hermione (no, no, NO) Harry/Hermione (hero complex and a know-it-all together...*shudders*) Ron/anyone (he annoyed me SO much in 'Hallows'. He should just go far, far away...) Harry/Percy (huge gag factor there)
AND the very, very worst I've ever seen and I apologise in advance for writing this...
George/Padfoot/Fred: and yes, I mean PADFOOT, not Sirius. *shuts down that part of brain*

Truthfully, I believe that most of the characters have some sort of bisexual potential, because I believe that most people in general are neither completely gay nor completely straight. So I read most characters in pretty much any relationship which does not include threesomes, bestiallity, abuse, incest, etc. But there are certain ships which I actively avoid:
Draco/Hermione: I quite frankly don't see the chemistry or the appeal.
Anything with Ron: I just hate his character, and I believe that Hermione could do so much better.
Remus/Tonks: I just never liked this; maybe it's because I identify Remus as completely gay in my mind, and only like to read him with Sirius or Severus.
Student/Teacher fics involving anyone current staff besides Minerva ( as a student only) or Severus (as a teacher only)

For me, personally, it's that I just don't like Snape and I can't see him with anyone really.
As for other anti-ships ... I just read a Luna/Severus fic and a Voldemort/Luna. Uh oh.

I have a whole list. -Ron/Ginny -Fred/George WHAT? Do these ships really exist? It would be disgusting even for a parody. I wonder why the people who enjoy thinking about such things even read Harry Potter. As for Dumbledore/Umbridge, was it before or after OOtP? Neither makes much sense but during OOtP would probably be the best option ;D There are plenty of Fred/George ships out there.

Most HP fans will agree, despite the fact that a lot of people think it's "gross" because they're "old". I totally don't understand that. Do the majority of people truly believe that at some point you just stop being in love or making love b/c you are old? Some of my favorite ships are older people! I just don't get it! I know ... a few friends of mine think it's cute. Others think it's weird because they're "old people". I mean, really, they can be in love - just because they're in love doesn't mean they have to make love. Besides, I've written about 15 fan-fics and not one even suggests AD/MM making love in the actual story, just past ones when they had children.
