I was just wondering how y'all got hooked on AD/MM fics. In my case, I was just trying to think of different ships to start threads for on the 'Ships board on the HP forums I help moderate, and then I started thinking about AD/MM, and I really liked the idea, and then I found some really good fics on ff.net. And, yeah! So props to you guys for getting me hooked.

Well, actually I don't really remember, I've just always liked the two of them together. Then one day while I was searching ff.net for PD-stories I came across an ADMM-fic. So that's how it all started. Anyway I just love Maggie. *sighs* Hugs, Rikki

Hooked on fanfic or AD/MM in general? I've been an AD/MM shipper since the first time I opened the first book oh....four years ago? Something like that. And for ages I thought it was just me. Then thanks to mugglenet interactive I discovered fanfic and I was disappointed in the lack of AD/MM fics. Then, *tada* Infinite Incantatem showed up on a google search and I did a happy dance before losing hours of sleep reading all the fics in 2 days. It all just snowballed from there. And this has all been since June or July of this year...I joined online HP fandom very late, believing there wouldn't be many other adults. Can I ask what PD stands for? Are there AD/MM fics I haven't discovered yet? *tries to hide the over eagerness of that question*

Apart from the fact that I really thought they were actually married in canon when I read the first book (I was 9, how corrupted can one be ;D?), my real AD/MM interest started when I was thinking of RL/MM, and well, I kind of liked it, but then for some strange reason I read an AD/MM songfic on "Something to talk about" by Bonnie Raitt, I all of a sudden was totally like "YES! THIS IS IT!" (kind of like after I saw my first Maggie Smith movie ). And well, now I'm dangerously addicted, I fear ;D! Love, Liz

I actually saw the first movies before I read the books, and I was like aww aren't they cute. Then I read the first chapter of the first book and was like yea they are flirting, and they belong together. Well that was only reinforced when I preceeded to read the rest of the books. I found fanfic last May. Christy

AD/MM FOREVER I think I was hooked from as soon as I came across them in Chapter One of PS/SS. In fact, I thought they were married and how they interacted. My obsession increased as books have progressed and I think that they make the perfect couple.

;D He! I was just really bored one day and found out you could change the little things on ff.net, changed it to romance. For some strange reason, I thought that putting Minerva with Albus would be a little section. After reading, I think it was Griselda's "When I look through your eyes" I was hooked.
I now can't believe that ff.net has 15, FIFTHTEEN PAGES! At least I think it does, haven't been there in a while. ;D

I guess I can be ashamed to say I was one of the, "Ewww, AD/MM, that's just gross!", kind of people, and my excuse for this won't be mentioned as I wouldn't want to offend anyone. ;D Then someone (I think it was my sister) showed me this fic centered around our lovely little ship and I thought, "Hmm...maybe not so gross". That eventually evolved into, "Gross?!?!?! HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT?!" and it's been a guilty pleasure ever since. -<3-Lauren

I've been a shipper in general for a long time. I've shipped Janeway/Chakotay for a long time (wrote stories with my sister Arabella, but never posted them anywhere) , I've written a few Jeff/Penelope stories (Thunderbirds), althought I would like to forget about those And about a year and a half ago I started on Harry Potter fanfiction. I quickly became a shipper, SS/HG at first.
Arabella was like 'oh Dumbledore and McGonagall would look so cute together', so I started to read AD/MM stories on ff.net. And haven't stopped reading ever since. First AD/MM I ever read was VoyICJ 'With A Whirl Of Joy And The Embrace Of Melancholy' [ftp]http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1231358/1/[/ftp] Great, great fic.

@griseldalafey: You were a J/Cer? Funny. ;D I've never quite liked Chakotay - or even Robert Beltran, mind you. But I think it's really funny that most shippers seem to end up with mostly the same ships though.

Well... In chapter one of the first book I thought they seemed SO like granma and Grandpa. Then I sorta forgot *shock* and it was not until I began reading HP fanfics again I realized that they are SO cute! What can I say? I hardly read anything else anymore!

Like Griselda, I was a long term 'shipper and 'ficcer in general. (My OTP was Picard/Crusher, btw: so another Trekkie) Minerva was my favourite part of the HP books since the very very start. I remember in PS looking around for somebody to 'ship her with and I couldn't find anybody who suited her. I dismissed DD as being too Gandalf like - an assexual character with larger matters on his mind. But then one day after reading OotP again, I decided I'd brave the general awfulness of FFN and have a look for some Minerva fic. And 'lo, it was mostly AD/MM. "Oh dear" thought I. "This is going to be ridiculous". So I read some of it, because there's nothing I find more amusing than the mad ideas people come out with in fanfiction. I learned my lesson. Two fics in (One by Freelancer, the other by Minerva's Quill) I was utterly hooked. I read my way through the entire archive at FFN and almost failed my Philosophy exams as a result. So that'll teach me never again to judge a book by it's cover.

Oooh, hey... just the right spot to jump in here.
Three weeks ago, I was dragged, kicking and screaming, into the world of AD/MM ship... by my best friend JLK5, and a new online friend, Sue!
I'd seen the movies of course... but hadn't read the books yet. I just finished the fifth book at 3am this morning! (bought them three weeks ago - my nine year-old niece is so proud of me! *g*)
And naturally, as I am a self-confessed "Geriaphile", the AD/MM relationship just jumped out at me. (Okay, originally the AD/MM relationship was pointed out to me, although even if it hadn't've been, I would have immediately shipped for them. They are just too cute, and too perfect for each other!)
So now, I am re-reading the books, memorizing all *their* moments, as well as finding and reading all the AD/MM fic I can get my hands on!
I have fallen hard for Albus and Minerva! So hard it hurt!! *G*
Also... I just want to take this moment to say, to all the writers here... that you've all done wonderful jobs on your stories!! I haven't read them all, but I am working my way through them... so much so that my own writing is suffering! Not only am I not getting any writing done, the muse is musing on various AD/MM ideas!
So... now... I will have to be dragged kicking and screaming *OUT* of this ship!!

For me it was when I re-read the HP books for like the 5th time just before OoTP came out I noticed something between the two of them (it was probably just wishful thinking) and then I stumbled across some of the fics with these two on FF.net and needless to say here I am, I haven't written any yet, but plan to in the very near future!

Actually everything started at J/C with me,too. (Hi griseldalafey ... how many kiss-me-you-fool moments did you count?... ) So I read a lot of the stuff in the internet....mostly on voyager-united.de....when I was done with the whole archive I searched for moreand in english (couz of the sucking syncronysation) and stumbled over some ff sides, including fanfiction.net...and, well...BANG... Mostly I do like the schoolgirl-min stuff... And since here are some of the realy great creative creators (what a tounge-twister), I do have to crawl on my knees throu the whole board...

I have to blame work for my shippness. You see, they were having a contest, and the winner would be sent to england to tour where they had the filming, and I had JUST come back from england (yes, I have a photo of Kings Cross Station) and I wanted to go back so bad... so I had to read the three books that were out in a weekend, and it was like wow, and then I got the 4th book, and I wrote my first fic which is called Destinys Child. (Shameless plug) www.fanfiction.net/s/2269431/1/I posted it on another HP site, and it went over pretty well. One of my friends sent me the link to FF.Net and told me to read a story she had found and that was several years ago. I sorta had it in the back of my mind where it was, but muggle life took over and it was put aside. I had only written one story- I had a forum for posting it... and I was busy. Busy with my recovery from cancer surgery Busy with work, moving into my new home, helping my parents with my dads cancer, dealing with my mum getting deathly ill after my dad died, losing 7 people in my family group to differnt illness. I didn't have time to do much except to - manage to work through everything and finaly find peace. then last october I got the writing bug. I was going to post then, but , then I had another death in the family, and things got put on the back burner untill January when I screwed up my corrage and posted something that I had been kicking around, and it is called SHadows in the wind. (I know another shameless plug) www.fanfiction.net/s/2212903/1/ start to finish it was written in one month. twelve chapters, during the brief time that I had between work and going to mums to see if she needed anything, and it was like, I can do this... and I noticed that the stories that were reviewed the highest were the shipper ones. even if they were horrid, they got great reviews because - well, {aww thats so swwweeeett) and I thought- "helloooo NURSE!!!" so I wrote Unforgettable unforgivable... (PLUG PLUG) www.fanfiction.net/s/2250448/1/ (admm) and one of the people who reviewed it was ... *drum roll...* Ginger Newts! I am thinking, where have I heard that name before...? I did a search and found another web site she is on, and and then a group she was in, and I found out later from her that it was the type of cookie/ bisciut that harry picked out of her cookie tin. (mind you bisciuts to us are fluffy cooked dough that we eat with soup... (a mix of flour, lard, milk, salt and baking powder) I actually had unforgivable unforgettable done before shadows in the wind by like 4 days. Whilst Petals fall through rose colored Glasses (Whooo hooo PLUG !!) www.fanfiction.net/s/2265246/1/ was my first controversial fic. (admm) and I had to go back and edit it because well, very young kids were reading it and that - concerned me. so I cleaned it up, but it didn't take away from the story, It was a valentines day challenge that I made for myself. Ginger Newts gave me the link to this place, and I am very thankful for it! I wote one here, in the comics section, but as ginger newts let me know, that area was lemon free, so I moved it to the lemon section... Reveiws are nice because they tell if we are doing good or bad. Given a direction I could write for any shipper, I happened to be a huge fan of Richard Haris, and Maggie Smith. While it may be difficult to think of older people having sex, they do. alot. watch the vidio that Angela Lansbury created (i think its called Positive moves) and it has a section on sexuality... erm.. more than I needed to know about her...) Bottom line is I love to read, and write. Right now, I am burnt out, and it may be a while before I write again (though I know people are clamering for another chapter to destinsy child, It may have to wait a bit, so be patient. Read, review, enjoy! Taylor

I read Clarye's stories back when she was Minerva's Quill, I don't remember which ones and then Lies' ones. "Staying Alive" is excellent. It was something different and they seemed like the characters could be more development.
funny thing now, I'm hooked on Joe/Clarisse. I blamed the board for this.

The first fic I read that had any AD/MM was Uber Grasshopper's fic A Tabby and Her Kit on FF.net. I kind of liked the pairing. They seemed to go together very well. Then I discovered Jestana's writings and loved and devoured them. After that I started looking for Albus/Minerva stories. I finally learned how to manipulate that thing on FF.net where you can pair up different people to find stories. I also did a Google search to find AD/MM stories and found this board. It has totally disrupted my life. I am trying to read all of them.

Okay so I read the first four books in a week, held out all of 3 weeks before buying and reading the fifth book, because this stuff is amazing i was absolutely hooked. i don't know why but i always had AD/MM in the back of my head. i mean come on they are so prefect together.
i was a little afraid of any internet stuff and wanted to stay in canon, but after a few months i just needed a Harry Potter fix, something new that i hadn't read before. I managed to find fiction alley, which lead me to one of Jestana's fics. Lets say it just snowballed from there to the point where my parents and sister thought i was crazy. they still do! I've been reading for about 8 months at this point, and only got the courage to start posting responses in the last few weeks. maybe one day i'll post a story, but for now i just love reading. You ladies are so wonderful, i love your work, and thank you for making me feel less like a freak (I thougt I was the only one crazy enough to like AD/MM) love you guys Cat

This seems like a good thread to post in first. I spent already one year in the HP fanfic world, when I did a search for fics about my then favourite character Minerva McGonagall last November. It took me 3 days to read my way through mascaret's PM&T but since then, I'm hooked. There are many, many wonderful ADMM authors out there, I feel lucky to be able to read their works. foci

I got hooked on McGonagall from the start. I always thought she was awesome but then when we saw a little bit more of Albus Dumbledore and her interact I told myself "Woa... they make a good couple." since then I've been reading a lot of AD/MM stories. But sadly comeing up with my own has been hard. Anyway thats how I got started.

I first read the Harry Potter about 4 years ago. I read all 4 books in about a month. I had always thought AD & MM were a couple. (This is one of the biggest fears I have about the end of the series. I am afriad either JK won't tell us or will tell us they are not a couple. Yet I honestly believe she writes them that way and the movies just help reenforce the impression. Anyone else have this fear?) Anyway, I just started reading AD/MM fanfics not long ago. I didn't really realize anything about the 'non-traditional' ships. I knew about the obvious ships - GW/HP, Hr/RW or HP/Hr. I had read the interviews with JK the comment about married professors stuck my interest. So I decided to reread all 5 of the books before HBP came out. After that I wanted more, through mugglenet, I found fanfic.net and the Infinite Incantatem. And then I found this board - I am totally hooked. Thanks everyone

Welll lets see... It's really such a long time since, and my memory sucks... But I think it started out as I read the first book, D'oh, and became crazy about McGongall, totally fav. character and all. After some years then, I was looking for stories on another book series y Tamora Pierce on ff.net, and must have for the fun of it searched for something potter-ish...And then.... *Drumrolls* Da da, I got absolutely hooked on ad/mm, loved how many great writers actually wrote about them... And after some time reading plenty of admm fics, I decided to join in... =) I don't think I saw them as a couple the first time I read the book, probably because I was so young, not even in my teenage years yet...
But hey, AD and MM Forever... Dudes ;D

I am really fond of Minerva. and though there wasn't that much written about her until OotP and when she went out to defen Hagrid I came to Admire her and then I found out FF.net and I'm like wow when was that there. eheheh so then I was looking around and went to check out the Harry Potter section and see what people write. Well naturally I went to check out Minerva Fan fics and knowing that people like to pair people up I found people pair Minerva pair her up with Albus and I thought that was awesome and cute. Then I found other pairings and it was not the same and a bit gross so I started reading fics with Minerva and Albus paired up. Jolly

I'm very new to the world of HP. I only read the first five books between December and February. I loved them! I found AD/MM indirectly. A friend of mine from 'The West Wing Board' wrote a short HP fic which I read and enjoyed. It got me thinking about the HP fanfic which I hadn't really considered before even though I've been reading FF of some sort since about 1998 (started with Picard/Crusher then moved into CJ/Toby from the 'West Wing,' with many shipper stops in between). I looked through FF.net and no pairing really appealed to me besides AD/MM. Once I started reading I was hooked.
Thank you all for the wonderful stories.
